Anterior placenta

Anyone else with anterior placenta? I was told at 10 weeks and 16 weeks (private scans) I have anterior placenta and may be waiting a while to feel movements. Wasn't mentioned at my 12 week NHS scan - but I'm not sure if that's something they would mention then?... I'm currently 19 weeks but for the past week I'm sure I'm feeling some movements! Nothing like I've ever felt before! Is this possible or could my placenta of possibly moved? Smile

Hi! Congratulations on your pregnancy. I've got an anterior placenta too, though didnt with my first.

I haven't had any private scans & was only told my placenta was anterior at my 20 week scan which is typical of NHS.

Anterior placentas, depending on location, can move up (mine is slightly low but expected to move up and further away from my cervix) but I imagine your is still anterior.

I've been feeling movements since around 19 weeks too so I'm sure this is what you're feeling! I do note personally this is later than I felt with my first which was around 16.5 weeks. The position of your placenta will have an affect on this too - if it's higher up/lower down/to the right/left.

Enjoy! It's such a fun feeling I found and I missed it so much after DS was born :)

Thank you sisterA! Congrats to you too, how far along are you now? That's good to hear so it probably was the baby moving Smile I'm feeling him quite low down! It's so strange but amazing! Only feeling it when im lying down and it's at nighttime! Have you felt any kicks yet? I've got my 20 week scan Friday so hopefully they will tell me more about it!

Thank you!

I'm 22 weeks today! Just the past few days they've been feeling a bit more kicky. Which is nice - taking it as my baby getting stronger.

I get them mostly at night too I think also because it's quiet & im the only one awake & have time to focus!

The detailed scan at 20 weeks is pretty cool I hope it all goes well! - so much information & the sonographers are so skilled. Blows my mind!

That's lovely! Thank you! Hopefully I'll feel it better soon! Can't wait to feel that first kick!
I love the scans I could sit there all day and watch my baby it fascinates me Grin good luck with the rest of your pregnancy momma!

I was told I have an anterior placenta at my 20 week scan and she said that it is in a good position away from the cervix so imagine they will go through that with you at your scan. I felt the baby kick for the first time that day after the scan.

Bells3032 · 30/01/2022 13:16

I was never told my placenta was anterior but found it written in my notes. Didn't feel anything noticeable until about 23 weeks... Also had lots of periods of reduced movement thanks to it.

Blughbablugh · 30/01/2022 13:16

I had anterior placenta with both my babies. The first one I didn't feel movement until I was about 24 weeks and struggled to feel any consistent movement (she more than makes up for it now as a very lively 5 year old!). With my second at 12 weeks they said I had anterior but later on they said it was more round to the side and I could feel much more movement and earlier from about 19 weeks but that could also be because he was my second baby.

Notevenabit · 30/01/2022 13:18

I have a low lying anterior placenta diagnosed at 20 weeks so have extra scans to see if it moves up with uterus growth (most do)- an anterior placenta isn’t really an issue unless it’s lying low and in the way of baby’s exit route. If you don’t have this issue/placenta praevia I don’t think they would mention it. I have had anterior placenta in previous pregnancy but only noticed it on my scan notes but it was never mentioned. Sometimes it can delay your feeling kicks but abounds like you can feel it already!

dg93 · 30/01/2022 13:24

I was sat down at my 12 week scan and told not to panic if I don't feel movement before 20 weeks - I had a private scan at 11 and 16 weeks where they also told me.

I didn't feel movement until 26 weeks x

NinaJames · 30/01/2022 13:31

I had a posterior with my first, and an anterior this time. I've been feeling moving since 16/17 weeks and constantly feel movement where my placenta is now (29 weeks)! X

firsttimemomma93 · 30/01/2022 15:27

Thanks ladies! I think at my 10 week she said it was quite high up! Probably why I've just felt the movements low down this week! SmileI feel lucky I've felt a little this week I was doubting it was my boy but it's surely got to be him letting me know he's fine he knows I'm a worrier haha

Hey OP i've got the same situation as you, I'm 23 weeks now and felt movement last week but only slightly, I had a worrying day/night when I hadn't felt her 'move' in a day I had a little cry when i went to bed had in my head though that my placenta is in the way and maybe she's kicking that, or asleep. Got up at about 3:30 that morning to go to the toilet and when i got back into bed she started kicking and moving of what i think was that as I'm a first time mum and not really knowing what i'm supposed to be looking out for. But congratulations

SickAndTiredAgain · 30/01/2022 15:44

I had one with DD and felt the first faint movements at around 19 weeks.
I don’t have one in my current pregnancy and definitely feel a lot more, but I did feel DD quite a bit as well.
And my placenta was only mentioned at the 20 week scan.

Dyra · 30/01/2022 16:47

I have same situation as other PPs. Posterior placenta in first pregnancy, but anterior this time around. I felt baby movements earlier this time than my first, but only low down and to the sides. Being told at 20 weeks it was anterior wasn't much of a surprise as a result. 32 weeks and feeling movements all over, but mostly at the sides still. If baby is kicking an area not covered by placenta, it's entirely possible you are feeling movements. It's a lovely feeling those early flutters.

firsttimemomma93 · 01/02/2022 19:54

Thanks all! It's nice to speak to people in the same situation! My little boy must know I'm worrying because this evening I've had a lot of movements!! The placenta must still be anterior as it's only the sides and bottom I feel him, but can literally see my belly go up on one side so amazing Grin

I also have an anterior placenta and am 28 weeks. I feel a lot of movement but will have another nhs scan at 35 works to see if my placenta has moved up. Not sure why the scan is so late into my pregnancy but that's when it is.

Letsbekindplease · 01/02/2022 20:41

I had anterior placenta with my first and always felt so much movement.

Gamechanger2019 · 01/02/2022 21:40

At my 20 week scan they told me I had a low lying anterior placenta, I still feel movement but mainly at the top and sides. When he moves further down it stresses me out but he’s just hiding 🙈 I’m going on Thursday for a scan to check progress (32 weeks) but then guessing they’ll make me go back in a month to check again
