Have you had a PCR test?

Somerandomgirl · 28/01/2022 21:36

@Squiff70

Have you had a PCR test?
Done lft as they wanted from nursery , negative.. they said they have croup case tho.. no idea if its that... tickly and tickly in the throat its horrific .. even if it was covid by now should have been fine? Dont have any other symptoms really just horribly sore throat and cough

I had covid when 30 weeks pregnant with LOTS of coughing. Not nice.
Things which helped me:

Hot drink with Lots of honey
Not talking!!! My throat was also sore and talking aggravated it and brought on coughing.
GP prescribed ‘simple linctus’ cough syrup but honestly wasn’t terribly helpful.
Hot steamy shower before bed to clear the airways a bit.
Sleeping propped up with pillows as would cough if lying down.

You’ve mg sympathies, really not fun.

Also to stop your muscles aching, you can hold a pillow to your middle when coughing -
Provides external support so your muscles don’t take all the strain

cheesesandwhich · 28/01/2022 21:39

Slightly similar situation to you OP, I'm 22 weeks pregnant and getting over covid but I've been left with a terrible cough and congestion that seems to get worse at night.
Watching with interest at any recommended remedies.
Feel for you being 34 weeks.

Maria1982 · 28/01/2022 21:39

I would get a PCR to be on the safe side.
I had negative lateral flow test but went for PCR when I started coughing.

If it is covid and you’re pregnant your GP/midwife will want to know (just to monitor you).

Squiff70 · 28/01/2022 21:39

There really are some truly AWFUL bugs going round at the moment, from 'super colds' to stomach bugs acting like norovirus. We've had both! I hope you feel better soon. I know it's virtually impossible with a young child but try to rest as much as possible and keep your fluids up.

Somerandomgirl · 28/01/2022 21:58

To those who suggest covid..even if was that, they dont have any cures for it anyway ... and after so many days even if it was it wont show anymore on a test... (until i order it in morning, its saturday tomorrow, until it comes until i send it back etc lol)
Gp wasnt concerned or suggesting was covid, and midwife too, saw her yesterday. Just some bug from nursery... but cause cant use the normal cold medicine i guess it progressed to this point where just coughing and coughing like insane...

Trully horrible..hope anyone who has it too to feel well very fast!

Teas dont help..just after 2 days made me feel sick having honey..pregnancy glory..cant stand honey now .. lozenges dont help.. sprays dont help...paracetamol soothes me to sleep if taken at right hour... what on earth is this bug seriously.....

You need to have a PCR test be- a cough is one of the symptoms where that is needed, not a lft.

Somerandomgirl · 28/01/2022 22:22

@Moonbabysmum we've had all sort of coughs every week since the kid started nursery, never was covid.. people forget we used to cough even without covid xx
I need remedies not diagnosis x
Ive spoken to gp seen midwife done lfts its more than week now so rulling out covid

I had an awful chest infection from 9 weeks until 22 weeks! I ended up drinking apple cider vinegar and hot water in the evenings and it seemed to do the trick! I literally tried everything before hand but nothing else was helping!
I have just had covid now at 28 weeks pregnant, the midwives put you on a 'virtual ward' and I'm on daily blood thinning injections and have to track my oxygen levels 3 times a day and my heart rate, so if it did turn out to be covid the midwives do take it quite seriously so they definitely would need to know.

traveltheworld1986 · 28/01/2022 22:43

Sorry just saw you are ruling out covid! Try the apple cider vinegar:)

Somerandomgirl · 28/01/2022 22:58

@traveltheworld1986 oh god didnt they gove you antibiotic for thr chest infection?.. and hope you are well now from this damn covid, seems like everyones got it at the moment x

In my case.. Even if the lfts were wrong i wouldnt know anymore as its too many days, my son had first 'symptoms' more than 2 weeks ago .. hes just always bringing something from nursery so i cant keep track anymore..but the runny nose definately was more than 2 weeks ago.. it wont show anymore as positive even if it was back then x

I'v got covid now, midwives aren't bothered at all - I assume as so many women have been through it. Just advised me to call 111 if I was very ill.

I normally use steam and vicks plus strepsils. Contact gp though if you think you need antibiotics.

Countingchicks · 29/01/2022 02:26

Proctors pinelyptus pastilles. You can order them on Amazon. Only thing that's worked for me

hypeman · 29/01/2022 02:40

Nothing extra that someone else hasn't already suggested but sympathy because I recently had a non covid bug (also had covid at Christmas) and it was truly awful (the other thing not covid!)

Also had penicillin from GP and was starting to feel better after 72 hours so hang in there. Still not feeling 100% but getting there!

Moonshine5 · 29/01/2022 02:49

Vapour steam
No ice or cold drinks
Fresh air
Keep chest / neck warm
Jakeman sweets
Sleeping on side
Elevated pillow

BaggaTDoubleTroubleDoubleG · 29/01/2022 03:03

Manuka honey and Apple cider vinegar- both should help ease a cough.

123feraverto · 29/01/2022 03:07

I had a positive PCR and negative LFTs

Sore throat and cough were Main symptoms

FluffMagnet · 29/01/2022 03:40

Sounds exactly what I had at 38 weeks pregnant, October last year. You have sympathy as by God does it hurt to cough when heavily pregnant. In my case it did set off contractions whilst my body was otherwise not ready, and I had an ELCS so was v worried about coughing post-surgery. Other than the usual hold on to your abdomen advice, I was told to try coughing over my shoulder to lessen the impact on your body. Definitely not covid for me - I had 3 PCRs and 2 LFTs that week all negative.

I would warn you though OP that I ended up getting very poorly 3 days after birth with a chest infection, then poor DS caught it (couldn't help coughing whilst breastfeeding) and ended up hospitalised at 11 days old with bronchiolitis. If you do have your baby before your cough clears, keep an eye and don't be afraid to seek urgent medical help if you think they're struggling.

Somerandomgirl · 29/01/2022 08:21

Thanks everyone ❤
Really hope it goes away soon, I'm so exhausted already...wasnt enough to have insomnia now just cough all night on top too...
I'll try some of the suggestions..and hope dont start contractions with so much pushing... dont know anymore how to bend to cough and all cause really belly is massive its impossible...
Phlegm at least has subsided after started penicillin but lets see...never had such long nasty thing....

Travellingraspberry · 29/01/2022 08:28

So sorry you're suffering, sounds awful! I haven't checked whether you can have it when pregnant but can highly recommend Covinia cough medicine for a tickly cough in the throat. Its the only thing I found that helped when I had similar and just couldn't stop coughing

Somerandomgirl · 29/01/2022 19:32

@Travellingraspberry dont think any of the cough syrups are allowed.... 🙁 really hope wont set off labour...
Just wish i give birth already (well not now obviously..when times right..) and all to be fine... so much worry and so fed up with all the problems

OP posts:
Somerandomgirl · 01/02/2022 23:00

cheekychaplin · 01/02/2022 23:11

You could still go for a PCR. I don't know why you keep repeating it's been too many days. They can show a positive up to 90 days.

Suzi888 · 01/02/2022 23:12

I had an horrendous cough in pregnancy waaaay before covid. Went on for months, racking, painful, exhausting etc
Saw my GP and he said not to worry, baby won’t be affected. See your GP if worried.
I drank hot lemon and honey, sucked tunes - not a lot you can do. Flowers
I did have braxton hicks and always wondered if the two were related.
