When did you start buying essentials for baby?

Hi! I'm 18 weeks on Sunday with a 20 week scan booked for Valentine's Day. We're hoping to spread the cost of some items over a few pay packets so hopefully we won't notice it so much or need to dip into savings etc! But, we also don't know when is too soon to start buying things. When did you all start?

I waited until 20 weeks scan and then made a list of everything we needed and bought bits over the coming months starting with travel system and cot and then got the smaller bits. When i got to 30 weeks, i started adding nappies and wipes to my weekly shop to stock up as you go through them so fast and it helped so much once baby arrived as I didnt suddenly have to buy loads.
I ended up buying far too many baby boy clothes esp as baby was suddenly born tiny so everything id bought was too big for him. And now I have some boxes of outgrown stuff even with donating stuff and throwing away stained ones.
This time I'm having a little girl and ive been really strict on stuff and as she grows I will buy stuff when I need it and just have the essentials to start off with.
Have a look at baby and toddler events that come up in the Spring. You can get some really good deals! Also tesco clubcard can get you some great discounts on baby stuff esp nappies etc.

Very slowly from 20 weeks (after the scan onwards). We went to a baby sale locally after that and got a second hand next to be crib (as it happened to be so cheap) and second hand first size bodysuits etc just because it was such a good deal.

We didn't get anything major like the house pushchair and car seat until much later but these times with Black Friday and sales! I am currently overdue and we have just about got everything, will see what else we may need in time!

20 weeks = Bought the pram due to potentially long lead times with prams due to covid/Brexit.

20-30 weeks = Bought a few bits of clothing.

30+ weeks = buying everything else - baby monitor, cot, drawers, hospital bag stuff etc.
