Work 9-5 how many breaks?

Is 1 hour lunch break the max when working 9-5?

Or are you due any other breaks.

Does being pregnant change that?

Never heard of extra breaks unless you are on shift work or it's a factory style job (sometimes you get 15 minutes in the morning, 30 minutes for lunch then 15 minutes in the afternoon to make up your hour).

I've always just had one hour break in my 9-5pm office job at either 12 or 1pm. No changes when pregnant but working from home, I can stop and enjoy a few extra moments here and there 🎉

I've never heard of extra breaks but I work 7.45-4.30 and I only get a 30 minute break which I'm struggling with at the moment. By the time I've sat down and finished eating, it's time for me to go back to work and I'm exhausted.
Should my break be longer?
Any other company I've worked for have always given 1 hour breaks so I do find is strange we only get 30 minutes.

Sprry forgot to say that I am also 13 weeks pregnant

Legally as per EU regulations you only need a 20 minute unpaid break if you work 6hrs or more. Check your company policy because normally companies have things in place if you’re struggling especially if pregnant.

If you're pregnant then You can ask for extra sit down breaks as part of your risk assessment

Aimeeks91 · 27/01/2022 22:16

Thank you, I'll look into it and hopefully I'll have my risk assessment soonSmile

I don't work 9-5 I do 9:15-230 around school run so don't get a lunch break officially but my boss lets me eat at my desk so I normally have something easy like a sandwich or if I do have something hot I heat it up and eat at my desk.
My last 3 jobs I've had same hours (22hrs) and they've all been ok with that.

When I did 9-5 I also have two other breaks so usually one mid morning and one mid afternoon
Around 10-15 mins depending on the company
To make a cup of tea, have a snack and a screen break so it really depends what company but I wouldn't work anywhere that expected me to work solid 9-5 with one break
It's not good for productivity for one! And I've always managed to get my work done and I work hard with a strong work ethic. I trained to be a HR practitioner a few years back but didn't end up going down that route - still came out with cipd qualification but that course taught me that breaks in the day are important.
Some may not want or need them but I think they should be offered
I worked for the police and they made you take the tea breaks. They treated there staff and well
And as I say I've always worked for companies where it hasn't been an issue

I don't think pregnancy changes your minimum legal requirements - you could ask for adjustments as part of a risk assessment though, such as having access to a chair if you would usually stand, and having mamagers be aware that you might need more frequent loo trips than you would have previously.

Where I work, my work pattern doesn't include any protected breaks, so it really depends on your job and the existing policies.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/01/2022 09:34

You'd have to ask for a change if you're struggling. What job do you do?
I used to have 30-60 at lunch and about a million wee breaks. We moved office when I was v early pregnant and I requested the seat nearest the toilets 😂😂

Aimeeks91 · 18/02/2022 09:44

So sorry I've just seen all your replies. I work in an office. I completely understand, and to be honest, they've been great with making me take a break from my screen and making sure I'm not tiring myself out, it was just st lunch I get a bit tired after so I'll definitely ask my manager when my risk assessment is so I can discuss this.

@sleepingstandingup I wish I could move offices as the toilets are soo far for me to walk to 🤣
