Hi All, I’m 28 weeks and I’m pregnant on my third baby . My little ones are 4 and 3. This pregnancy has been really hard on me with pelvis issues , sleep insomnia and generally feeling rubbish and tired a lot of the time . I had a brief period in second trimester where I had a boost of energy but that has faded again last few weeks . I work full time from home at a desk and they have been very accommodating giving me reduced tasks as such . However I’m finding myself anxious about work a lot just feeling like I’m not contributing or feeling guilty for not having energy to put into things etc . So I’m talking to my doctor and as I’ve 6 weeks fully paid sick leave in my contract she has suggested getting signed off sick from end of Feb so basically leaving work around the 31 week mark . I would be happy about this and feel it should help my pelvic pain not to be sat at a desk so much and it should reduce my anxiety . I’ve plenty to keep me busy at home / family but I guess what I’m looking for here is if anyone else went off this early for similar reasons ? I feel like a wuss but then if my company supports it and I get full pay then I’m thinking I should just take advantage of that !

I've rarely heard anyone say they regretted finishing work early, but I have heard loads say they regretted not doing it! Usually with their first, tried to keep working as late as possible and then baby arrived like a day after they finished work. There are no prizes for sucking it up and being miserable.

I'm planning to finish around 33 weeks, from one of my WFH part-time jobs, and carry on with the other an extra couple of weeks! I just want to have a little bit of time to do nothing for the last time in my life!

It is worth checking your policies at work as if you are off sick during the last month or so they can start your maternity leave early, giving you less time off.

Fluffy05 · 26/01/2022 12:33

Your maternity leave will kick in automatically at 34 weeks if you are off sick

Hi all in ireland that doesn’t happen so I would get paid sick leave up until 38 weeks

I'm signed off from 34-36w then maternity leave kicks in at 36w

PennyPinkPineapple · 26/01/2022 13:14

Do it.

I finished 6 weeks before my due date because I just couldn't carry on any longer and she arrived 2.5 weeks later!

Thanks everyone ! I actually took Mat Leave early at 33w in my last pregnancy , I should be grateful this time I can take sick leave instead . Think I just feel like a wuss , but I know I’ll feel so much better if I do it .

But don't you want to get signed doff now if you are feeling that anxious etc?

SaraKitty · 26/01/2022 13:53

Oh yes I’m saying I will get signed off but only if I get full pay and don’t get forced to start Mat leave early . Just wanted to feel like I’m not the only one doing it 😆
