Can you breastfeed in a Bjorn baby carrier?

My baby isn't born yet but I'm trying to decide on baby carriers. I'm pretty sure I don't want a wrap carrier they just seem confusing and I want something I can just pop on.

I do like the style of the black baby Bjorn carrier and my partner will be happy to wear it too.

(We're looking at the mini one)

I wouldn't have been able to due to the position not working for us. But its a nice carrier, loads on ebay I got mine 2nd hand.

I certainly couldn't have! The baby is very upright - maybe if you loosened the straps you could get them at approximately the right angle depending on your boobs/nipple position etc but I think you'd need to take them out.

I couldn't breastfeed in any sling due to a combination of feeding problems and general cackhandedness, but lots of people do manage with ones that have the baby lying down more.

I had a lovely stretchy fleece pouch sling which I couldn't feed in (but I suspect most women could) but was really easy to put the baby into in the right position and lasted me all the way through to around age 2 (dh used a Baby Bjorn because of some weird idea that it was more "manly" somehow that I couldn't be arsed to comment on).

Honestly, while baby is still very tiny feeding while in that upright position and enabling a good and, most importantly, safe latch will be tricky.

Would you consider a ring sling? They’re very simple to put on and adjust, baby can be in a cradle position for feeding and the swap to upright after without much fuss and you can get some truly beautiful designs and colours.

Here you can see a safe latch. Baby’s face is visible, head is free to move (no fabric covering head).

I haven't done in it in that sling but in mine I just found that I had to loosen the straps and kind of hold my boob in the right position so as long as you can loosen the straps I don't see why you couldn't.

Also as above says...I only did it when baby was a little older. When he was tiny I had a wrap sling so he was easier to move into a proper position.

Wrap carriers seem fussy but once you've got the hang of it you'll do it without thinking. My daughter LOVED my Lifft sling and slept in it for hours. I went to a sling meet and they showed me how to breastfeed in it so maybe see if there's one in your area. They'll show you the easiest and safest ways to put on your sling too.

We used a second hand Baby Bjorn when she was older for forward facing but I can't imagine putting a tiny baby in one (though I know many do, I just don't think she'd have been as comfortable as she was quite small)

Here you can see baby in a safe upright position. Baby’s head and face visible, baby is high up on parents chest, baby’s spine is in the ‘C’ position (this is ergonomically the safe and optimum position for baby’s back), baby’s knees are inline with their navel (the “froggy” position, this is ergonomically optimum for supporting babies hips and spine) and baby’s feet face the floor (this prevents hyper extension of the hips).

It seems a lot but after a few practice times you’ll be an expert (if you choose this tripe of sling Grin).

I really liked the Close Caboo when DD was tiny. I'm not very dexterous but it's a two-piece and doesn't require any wrapping, and I used it loads when she was tiny. Someone gave us a Baby Bjorn and I didn't like it at all. We got an Ergo 360 for when she was bigger that DH and I both found really comfy.

No.

AVOID these types of “ring” slings (they are actually known as bag slings). They don’t allow for safe positioning either cradle or upright, they have a padded edge (rail) with makes it very difficult to prevent fabric covering babies head. Altogether not a safe carrier.

Ring slings are absolutely simple (not like wrap slings) and I breast fed using mine.

I had one exactly like Pinkyu put up the picture of, and used it all the time till he was about 18 months old. Didn't have a pram or pushchair. It was great.

@theDudesmummy is beautiful, it’s been a while since I’ve wrapped and I was trying to figure out the brand, it looks like a girasol but then I thought a little frog Hmm.
