Should I contact my GP about nausea?

I'm 9 and a half weeks pregnant and my nausea is now so bad I can't cook or prepare food as it turns my stomach so much and I end up retching and gagging. I haven't actually vomited (yet) but am very concerned about my two-year-old daughter's nutrition as I can't being myself to cook much for her. I made her a ham sandwich for lunch yesterday and just the smell of the butter alone made my retch several times. Even worse, she rubbed her buttery hands in her hair and went I went to kiss her head a short time later, the smell of the butter set me off again.

I now have SO many food aversions that my own diet is severely limited and I don't want it to affect my unborn baby. I can't attend anything sweet - even bread tastes like it's full of sugar to me. The smell of ANY food cooking is enough to put me off eating for hours and it's having a knock-on effect on my partner who just wants (and is perfectly entitled to) a decent meal. The only thing I've found which remotely takes away the nausea is ice cold, fizzy orange Lucozade (even though it's sweet!), which is high in caffeine so I'm trying to be very careful with it.

Is it bad enough to speak to my GP even though I'm not actually vomiting?

Yes! And be insistent. There are LOTS of safe medications you can take. See pregnancysicknesssupport.com- some GPs are not well informed so be armed with the info before you ring.

There's no need to suffer nowadays.

Best of luck OP

Yes please go. I was exactly the same, I only vomited a few times but the nausea was constant; even waking me at night.
Luckily I had a VERY supportive GP who gave me anti nausea medication straight away. It didn't completely disappear but eased off enough to manage at least one meal a day and I was able to drink milk and water. And it went away all of a sudden at 19 weeks thank the lord

I found the seasickness wrist bands really helpful. There are no drugs in them - there are studs you have to place carefully and it is a sort of acupressure action. They could be worth a try although they don't work for everybody. One of my friends had no luck at all with them but they got me well enough to work and eat some food.

Thank you everyone. I'll consider the acupressure bands and will contact my GP tomorrow.

I had the bands, first pregnancy they helped 2nd not so much but it was worse. I was not sick with either pregnancy but I felt so bad honestly I could not function. The dr gave me something beginning with c it helped just enough to get myself together was not a cure all.

I'm in the exact same boat. Everything makes me feel nauseous. Even nice smelling things like laundry powder! I've not worn deodorant for ages cos I can't bring myself to have the scent around me. And as for food I feel like there's nothing that really appeals to me, it all makes me feel sick. I'm getting to the point now where I'm anxious about waking up in the morning because the gagging starts all over again. I think I'll give the doctor a call this week and ask for something. For some reason I was feeling silly about it as I've not actually been sick yet
