I'm 16+3 weeks pregnant and I've tested positive for covid this morning. I wasn't well in work yesterday had an upset tummy so left work early and by 5pm jesus christ it felt like I'd been hit by a ton of bricks, still felt the same this morning so did an LFT and it's positive. My worry is I'm currently unvaccinated (bad I know but I actually had an app tomorrow to have my first jab) and now I'm more worried about my baby. Where do I go from here, I have a pcr on the way but is my baby in danger??

I will say I'm certain I've caught it from work, because I'm unvaccinated and pregnant I haven't been anywhere, my partner does literally everything outside the home, i go to work and back home again, I also work with around 200 people, partner is negative so Im certain it's not come from him. I'm not pointing the finger but I'm wondering if someone at work has it and are asymptomatic and have unfortunately passed it on. I will be contacting work soon as I was in close contact with my team leader yesterday and now I feel bloody guilty she may end up with it😭

Call your maternity assessment number and speak to the midwives. They won’t want you to come in at the moment but they am an let you know at what point you should head in for treatment, they’ll advise how to keep yourself well and possibly prescribe some blood thinners for you. Most adverse outcomes are in the third trimester so you and baby will likely be ok but talk to the hospital anyway.

Hope you feel better soon.

Call your midwife if you’re worried about baby. Reschedule your vaccine. Contact your supervisor. I understood that the risk of Covid is greater to you than to your baby. Rest up and I hope you’ll be ok but don’t hesitate to go into hospital if you deteriorate. Thinking of you.

What would the blood thinners be for. I'm already a high risk pregnancy so knowing that makes me panic even more, I don't care what I go through but I don't want anything to happen to my son, hes a very much wanted baby. Why did I have to be so bloody stupid in delaying my vaccination, I'm so ashamed of myself right now, I haven't even had my flu jab yet either, work and home life seem to take over and before I know it I've neglected everything I should be doing to protect my baby and myself 😔😔

Blood thinners might not be prescribed, they are sometimes. They are preventative to reduce the blood clots that can be associated with Covid but your midwife will work out if you need them or not.

Don’t beat yourself up. There’s nothing that can be changed at the moment. Let your hospital know about that you have covid, they will have dealt with many covid positive pregnant women and they will have an action plan in place for you. Do what the hospital say. If they prescribe you something it will be safe for pregnancy and prescribed with the view that it’s better than the alternative, even a small risk of the alternative. The NHS is very risk adverse when it comes to pregnant women, even more so with covid which means they will not give you anything to harm the baby but may prescribe something as a preventative. When you’re better, make a new appointment to get your vaccines, even if you feel like a pin cushion (I had my first covid vaccine at 12 weeks, second at 21 weeks, whopping cough at 25, flu at 28 and my booster 3 weeks postpartum).

I'm high risk for blood clots already and was supposed to start daily injections at 28 weeks. Does that mean I'm most likely going to have to start them early. I'm a big worrier and always have been, I just feel so guilty for my unborn son and my colleagues especially my team leader, lovely lady, the last thing she needs is covid caused by my own stupidity in not getting vaccinated sooner. I will be contacting the maternity team when they open at 8am and go from there, work now know and Ive sent in my LFT result and my isolation note so that's one thing sorted for now.

Thank you so much for all advice given x

I had covid at 15w. No risk factors but had fragmin injections for ten days as standard protocol from my hospital. At the time I was double jabbed (now triple) so yes I'd be definitely asking for blood thinners given you're high risk. I'm now 34+2 and baby is fine.

Don’t be so hard on yourself, I have been vaccinated and had my booster. I tested positive yesterday and I’ve been doing LFT’s twice a day for a week due to the number of cases in my class. I’ve got cold symptoms and feeling tired, called the midwife and she said at just to keep on top of paracetamol, fluids and rest. The reassuring thing is that it’s likely to be omicron, which is a much milder variant, more like a bad cold. The pandemic is coming to an end now, from March positive cases won’t need to isolate. Try not to stress xx
