Pregnant after miscarriage with PCOS

Hello all

I have just found out I’m pregnant again after having a miscarriage with PCOS - I have no idea if PCOS is the reason I miscarried and I’m desperately searching to see if there is anything I can do differently this time to help..
I seem to be able to get pregnant fairly easily (which I am so grateful for as I know that’s not the case with everyone with PCOS). Could anyone share some success stories on pregnancy with PCOS or even any advice on anything I can do/supplements to take to help this time? I know miscarriage is a risk in any pregnancy but I’m just terrified PCOS is the cause - currently on no medication for it but should I be?

I need to stop being so anxious but I can’t seem to stop stressing :(

Hi and congratulations. How many weeks are you?

I've got pcos and endometriosis, I was not ovulating but my periods started again last year and I'm 6w2d today. This for me is a miracle baby. I have a daughter born in 2001 and I've been trying to get pregnant ever since. My understanding is that pcos makes it harder to get pregnant but I'm not sure if it makes the pregnancy riskier.

Hello

Thank you! I’m currently 4w6d today - I found out really early as I’ve been obsessing a little.. only issue is now it feels like a very long wait to find out if everything is going OK!

Congratulations to you too!! May I ask if you are on any medication to help manage your PCOS? My midwife from when I was first pregnant was also under the impression PCOS causes an issue getting pregnant rather than miscarriage however after searching google for days I’m not sure anymore ..

Were you diagnosed with PCOS when you had your daughter? Sorry for all the Q’s I’m just so keen to hear everyone else’s experiences!

Stop with Google please. I convinced myself I was having an ectopic and then a blighted ovum. So far is all OK, I saw the heartbeat and fetal pole.

I spent hours on Google, I made myself feel so unwell.

I was offered clomid years ago. I consider ivf too. I didn't go for either and just hoped for the best then accepted it was not going to happen.

It took years to be diagnosed with pcos, lots of wrong advice from the gynaecology doctors. Then 6 years ago was told that I have endometriosis too, had somebody surgery but still never happened until this miracle!!!!

Wow what a journey!
That really is a miracle you must be over the moon - amazing that you got to hear a heartbeat at 6 weeks, I’m toying with the idea of having an early scan so I can hopefully see a heartbeat ASAP but a little worried it will be too early and cause unnecessary worry..

You’re completely right about Google I need to stop!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience I really appreciate it.

I'm anxious too but having the scan did calm me down a bit, that said I'm having a private scan tomorrow.... just for my piece of mind.

I have PCOS, and I am lucky in that I have fallen pregnant everytime we have tried around ovulation, the issue is ovulation is few and far between.

3 of those pregnancies resulted in MC. One we know the reason for and is not connected with PCOS but not the other two.

To ovulate I was prescribed metformin. Works like a dream for me although apparently it's no longer prescribed for PCOS according to my doctor. I was lucky that a locum prescribed it because I asked.

I was referred to recurrent miscarriage clinic but was pregnant by the time I got to my first appointment so they couldn't do any tests. My consultant prescribed asprin incase blood clotting was an issue. He also prescribed progesterone because if you have an unregular cycle it's connected to low progesterone. So far the pregnancy seems to be going well.

@Carebear99 good luck with the scan!!!

@czycoup congrats on your pregnancy, how many weeks are you?
That sounds a lot like myself, my periods are very irregular however I’ve seemed to be able to get pregnant very quickly both times I tried. Could I ask, are you on Metformin still now you are pregnant? I keep reading that it can help with early miscarriages.

I also read that aspirin can help so I’m currently taking low dose aspirin every day just incase as I don’t see it doing any harm!

I’m going to ask my midwife if I could have my progesterone levels checked but unsure how wel that will go down as every time I speak to her about PCOS she tries to reassure me it doesn’t cause miscarriages :/

Fingers crossed this is our time I guess!!

I'm about half way now. I wasn't prescribed metformin for this pregnancy but the one before. So I took it for a week then stopped once I ovulated. My last pregnancy it was mentioned I should have carried on with metformin but it's not a problem and this one the midwife said not to worry. However, I am on metformin now due to GD rather than PCOS.

If you have low progesterone it can stop pregnancies developing so you need to take it early, but I guess not everyone with PCOS has irregular cycles and low progesterone so it can't be said PCOS itself causes miscarriage. I'm not sure tbh. If you have a history of miscarriages then you should be able to get progesterone but I think it's only a newish thing so you might have trouble getting it.

Congratulations!!

I've got pcos as well and i'm doing ivf, my doc stopped my metformin for my transfer. If, fingers crossed, everything goes well, they said they will give me some extra vitamins.

I also have pcos, I was already on metformin for it when I miscarried. When I found out I was pregnant I went to see a private gynae who told me to take:

  • cyclogest (400mg)
-Aspirin (150mg And also inofolic.

19 weeks now, still worried and nervous but its a lot further along than the 7 weeks I was when I miscarried.
