Currently 26 weeks pregnant with dc2 but my eldest is 10 and I can't remember what it's like to have a newborn! I plan to bf this baby if I can and I'm just wanting a bit of an insight into what my days will look like in those first few weeks.

There will obviously be lots of feeding whether it's breast or bottle. Naps. Housework. Getting eldest to and from school. Do you get much differentiation between night and day at this stage? I honestly can't remember.

My eldest was formula fed and I remember him settling well. He would sleep in his Moses basket for quite long chunks of time from an early age but I've been warned not to expect that with a bf baby.

My DD was exclusively breastfed and doing lots of cluster feeding in the morning and evening but was sleeping nicely during the night with maybe 2/3 feeds max.
Until she was 3 months it was that easy, then the sleep and breastfeeding got much mote frequent at night and I am definitely sleep deprived now at 9m!
I don't know what it's like with another kid but fron what i remember these first weeks were just a big blur trying to adjust. Diapers, feed, wash, walking outside, naps, settling, on repeat all day... and recovering from birth physically!

Routine? Newborn? My EBF DS fed for 30 - 40 minutes of every hour 24 hours a day for over 4 weeks apart from a 90 minute break at night after giving him a bottle of expressed milk (which I had to pump at 4am as that was when I had best supply). Even then he would only sleep if held by me so I still didn't get to sleep. I didn't do housework. I barely ate. I started hallucinating at one point. My experience was at the more extreme end but it really does totally depend on your baby and how demanding they are - they're all so different. Fingers crossed you have a little one who will nap in their cot from day one - most don't! A sling was a lifesaver for me.

@Mimba1 routine was maybe the wrong word, I should have said 'what does your day look like' and by the sounds of it yours was very full on. I'll be honest, I don't think I could hack what you describe.

Trying to remember myself and it was only 2 years ago 🤣 Also due soon.
Breasted and I remember generally, baby wakes up and then I stayed in bed feeding on and off whilst he snoozed on me. Then basically downstairs, on the sofa chilling with baby or out and about, feeding every few hours during the day I think. When they were a little older I'd love our afternoons together as we'd go out for fresh air in the morning then snuggle on the sofa together whilst he fed and then snoozed on me. Evening witching hour - started about 5/6pm when the cluster feeding began for a few hours just on and off the boob snoozing and feeding. This time I imagine there'll be a lot less chilling on the sofa for me with a toddler too!!

The type of feeding (be or bottle, expressed or formula) shouldn't really make a difference to how your baby settles etc (cluster feeding is a bit different, temporary and also not all bf babies do it, my son didn't). It's now recommended that all babies, even formula-fed babies, are fed on demand. I started out ebf but had to have breast abscess surgery at 4m and change to formula; it made no difference, our son was always extremely unsettled, refluxy, no routine, and at 2yo has never got into a nap routine or slept through the night. All babies are different, and whatever your baby's pattern, you will do just fine!
