Asymmetric IUGR at 34w2d. Please share experiences I am worrying myself sick

Hey everyone- as in title, I went afor my appointment and did grown scan, 34w2d. Baby growth not normal- I hear it's asymmetric IUGR:
HC (head circumference) normal
Femur length normal
BPD (skull measurements I believe?) slightly below
Abdominal circumference and estimated fetal weight in the 5%_ so way below!

Consultant looked a bit panicked because all these were normal at last growth scan at 24w2 d. Baby movements have changed in the past 2 weeks, less. But everywhere on the net said it's to be expected as there is less room.
He sent me for stress test which came back normal, some blood work (will get results tomorrow) and another scan with a specialist tomorrow.
Anyone faced similar issues please share your experience, I am worrying myself sick. I am now told I have to have CS latest by 37 weeks, if not earlier depending on other results.

Hello - sorry this has happened. I had a similar experience and it was a shock.

There is a great group on face book called something like IUGR support group UK which I recommend you join.

Don’t panic especially not until you see the specialist as single measurements can be wrong due to baby location and at this gestation even a few millimetres out makes a big difference. I was told at 24 weeks baby was below the 5th centile with a asymmetrical measurements (having been all good at 20 weeks) but now at 32 weeks baby is at the 30th and all looks fine - there are all sorts of reasons why this can happen and sometimes they never know why.

In my case it could have been a mistake or just that babies don’t grow at an exactly linear rate (or a bit of both).

Also it’s not true that fetal movements decrease as they get bigger - so you should go and get checked out whenever you feel reduced movements. That’s the official nhs advice for all babies but I know with me they were even more cautious because IUGR was suspected and baby was so small (for example I called in at 25 weeks and they sent me for an urgent scan even though they wouldn’t normally do that before 27 weeks).

Thank you for the input @Fleur405

I am waiting for final results and will take from there.

O have finally calmed down b we cause one scan already changed the head measurements so realise just how these things have a certain margin of error.
I am now also noting baby's movements on my notes app everytime just so I am sure of when I felt them and how they weee. I used to just count kicks (up to 10 in an hour) every morning and evening, and not have a detail of the rest of the movements.
Since the pattern has changed I really need to keep on top of it.

Thank you for sharing.

Hi, just a bit of reassurance as above poster, I went for a scan at around 34 weeks and was told the HC was on the 3rd percentile whereas the femur and AC were on the 50th roughly. Two weeks later the HC was on the 30th - still low ish but totally in normal range. A one off measurement can be so inaccurate! It definitely worried me more than a general low measurement for everything so I get where you're coming from. Let us know how scan goes!

@Fleur405 @Nuglife123

An update- the scans came back normal and was sent back home.
Last Wednesday I noticed some changes in movement again and went in to see doctor on Thursday. After further scans it appears the AC had dropped lower than 5 percentile while others were tolerable at between 19 and 30 percentile.
Doctor decided it was too risky to continue with pregnancy and that a c-section be scheduled- I was 35+4 at this point. She was born on Friday evening as tiny baby at 2.4 kg, but she was thriving. Ticked every box and did not need any NICU time. Released from hospital on Sunday and baby girl is home and doing well. Keeping a close eye on her but otherwise enjoying the newborn stage.

@AlreadyThere congratulations! Considering she was born at 35 and half weeks that's not a bad weight at all! I'm glad she's doing well!
