Pelvic Girdle Pain - Any tips?

Hi all,

I'm 20+5 and already struggling with pelvic pain... It's painful to sleep on my side, move between sides at night, to get out of bed, to sit, to stand, to walk... The list goes on.

I've had back issues before and so booked in to see my physio as soon as I got to 12 weeks and also have been going to pregnancy yoga every week. I'm using hot water bottles, sleeping with a pillow between my legs, keeping symmetrical and trying to keep my tail bone tucked in.... Mostly I've been managing it, but today, for no clear reason, I'm in agony. I just keep thinking this is going to get worse!!

Does anyone have any suggestions? Any ideas welcome as I've got a feeling I'll be desperate before long!!!

I was told not to do yoga by the nhs physio (mine was SPD, though).

My advice for SPD is …
Massage, osteopath, pregnancy pillow rammed between legs when sleeping; Swiss ball, 1:1 pilates.

If you have a back issue then you should probably seek specialist advice on that.

I would recommend these 2 links for tips on ways to change your daily movements to alleviate further damage & pain as well as specific exercises to support your pelvis.
Would also suggest a chiropractor/osteopath/physio with experience treating PGP.
Try & get referred through the NHS as well for physio treatment even as just a supplement to your private physio.
My NHS physio said rest & specific exercises are really important - too much walking or general movement can exacerbate it.
Definitely mention it to your midwife & don't let them fob you off & say that it's just a part of normal pregnancy pain & will definitely stop after birth. This is not necessarily true & you shouldn't have to just suffer through it until then anyway!
It should be written into your pregnancy notes & taken into account in your birth plan because certain positions can make it much worse and potentially cause long term damage.
I currently have to use a stick to walk to take the weight off my pelvis, it's particularly bad on one side for me - also connected to my back as I have mild scoliosis.
I have a pelvic support belt (not the same as the back/bump support ones usually used in pregnancy), which is mildly helpful.

Thanks so much both! I tried a support belt for the first time yesterday and felt the effects immediately! Have also found an osteopath near me from the link above... Thank you!

Planning to ask my physio and the osteopath about their views in yoga... Really hope I can continue and adapt the movements as I really do love it... Fingers crossed!

Thanks again!!
