Hi,

Hubby and I have been ttc a sibling for our DD for over 2 years.
We've had 8 MC during this and more recently a ruptured ectopic pregnancy where I lost one of my ovaries and a Fallopian tube.

Cue 3 months later ( not ttc during this time due to recovery from the emergency surgery etc) and we decided to start the process for IVF, Because of our age and the fact we already have a child we have to pay privately.
We are now 2 months into the ivf process, and have paid upwards of £590 for testing etc. we have an appointment for our 'nurse planning' in March, where a week before we have to pay for the entire Ivf treatment......which was fine until we found out we were pregnant again!

Question is.....do I tell the fertility clinic now ? Or wait at least until I've had a scan at 6 weeks ?
I don't want to cancel the appointment in case I do end up in the same position I've found myself in many times before....and end up having to wait longer for another appointment ( despite being private we've been told that it could be 5/6 months before we actually start with medication etc)
Time is not on my side as I'm 41.

Anyone else found themselves in this situation ? Advice would be greatly appreciated

Wait

Congratulations. I would call them and let them know have your had testing regarding the miscarriages? They might be able prescribe progesterone etc for this pregnancy or give you an early scan.

Not quite the same but DH and I were scheduled for NHS IVF this month after three miscarriages.

I found out I was pregnant in early September, and was supposed to have my nurse consultation (to determine protocol etc) in early November. I held off telling them for as long as possible because I was worried I'd miscarry again. Ideally I'd have waited until my 12 week scan, but this was scheduled for the week after the IVF appointment!

I ended up having a private scan at 11+1, a couple of days before my appointment, and then ringing to cancel at that point as everything was looking okay. I’m now 22+1 and all is still going well!

I'd wait as long as possible before cancelling if I were you, but of course I don't know your financial situation and what it would mean in terms of payment for treatment.

Tell them: they have access to scans so can tell you if it’s an ectopic early and so will make an emergency referral. Or they may even prescribe progesterone / blood thinners / steroids to help prevent a miscarriage due to various factors.

Most ivf clinics will only release you back to the NHS after 12 weeks.

Ladies thanks you so much for your replies x

I have contacted EPU and due to the previous ectopic they have advised that they will scan me at 6 weeks.
I contacted my doctor to request progesterone ( today). It haven't heard anything as yet.

I wondering if like @Ozanj said the clinic would be willing to do testing etc....def worth a try x

Thanks @Carol1980! Fingers crossed things go well for you this time :)

Rrrob · 17/01/2022 15:21

I had exactly this. Ivf clinic refunded me but lost 1k on meds that couldn’t be returned. Congratulations!

Carol1980 · 18/01/2022 22:22

@Rrrob
At the moment we have booked our nurse planning visit. So I'm tempted to go and see if we can postpone the appointment. I don't think the money we have paid for this appointment ( £375) is refundable. Pretty sure I read on the paperwork that it is non refundable, but we haven't paid for the access fertility treatment cycles.
Given that it's not refundable im thinking that I should postpone, incase I do end up having a MC again.
