Hi all,
Ive been taking pregnacare max in my pregnancy. I'm week 8 currently.
I've just noticed that the folic acid they contain is lmethylfolate, which they say is better. However, I've read that lmethylfolate isn't evidence based and research based like folic acid. They aren't the same thing although pregnacare has labelled in a misleading way.

When did they change this?
Has anyone else taken this form and it's been OK? I am really anxious and wish I'd just taken folic acid and vit d separately.

I'm sure many people have taken these and things have been fine - can anyone offer any reassurance?

First pregnancy supplements are so well regulated if it wasn't safe they couldn't sell it , second the form in the brand you are taking methyl folate is more easily absorbed by the body so it's superior to plain folic acid your body has less work to do to break it down therefore you absorb more.

@LizzeyBenett thank you for your reply. Agree about regulation so logically i can reason it must be safe. However, I have read that only folic acid is tested and evidence based to reduce neural tube defects. Therefore, I have worries about the form in pregnacare max. I have also read it's the more bioavailable form, but I believe there isn't an evidence base on the effectiveness against neural tube defects etc.

I'm aware pregnacare max is developed by experts with far greater knowledge than i have, so logic tells me that it will be fine. I have just definitely read a number of doctors reminding consumers that methylfolate and folic acid aren't tested equally, so it's a niggle.
