Just looking for some advice/stories if anyone been through the same.

We had our 20 week scan on the 26th October and was told we were having a little girl. We have since got pink clothes, blankets, comforter etc. We have now been to a growth scan today at 32 weeks, the person doing the scan asked if we found out the sex so said it was a girl. Turns out that she thinks its a boy, she went off and got another person who also said boy.

We arent bothered either way as long as baby is healthy but seems strange to think we are having a boy after 12 weeks of having a girl. We will mainly only need to change the clothes as lucky we got a grey pram & done nursery a green colour but im not sure who to believe. My husband said he believes we are having a boy as we are further along and should be easier to see but they did say the cord was wrapped around little ones legs and baby was very lively so was moving around alot. Im just concerned that they might have been looking at the cord and it might be a girl.

We have another scan in four weeks and will ask them again but not sure whether to go buy some netural/boy clothes just in case or wait until the next scan. What would you do if you were in this position?

Please be kind, like i said we arent bothered what the sex is but i am the type of girl that likes to have everything organised and wouldnt like to be rushing round to get boy clothes once little one is here.

Do you have your 13 week scan you can post for us incase there is an obvious nub showing :)

WorriedGiraffe · 14/01/2022 19:18

You could get a private gender scan to check? Otherwise I wouldn't bother buying the clothes now, you won’t need them before your next scan anyway.

I have looked at private scan but seem that they can only do gender scan to 32 weeks which i am now.

Its not completely clear but I would have guessed boy from that one, looks like stacking amongst the leg there :) If you get any others please post away as it may well show something extra for us:)

Im not very good at the 20 week ones I usually have a guess from the nub angles on the 13 week ones so any more of them would be greatGrin

Problem is that baby is so big by 32 weeks it's hard to see them very well! It's usually quite clear by 20 weeks but obviously never 100%.

I would suggest gender neutral newborn clothes though - it makes it easier to reuse them if you have another! We had mostly gender neutral stuff for DD and means we can use them easily no matter what DC2 is. They grow out of the early stuff so fast that it's good if you can use it again!

waterlego · 14/01/2022 19:43

I would think it’s more likely to be a boy for two reasons. Firstly, this scan was later so I’d expect sonographers to get a clearer view of everything. Secondly, I gather it’s more common for mistakes to be made that way round, ie baby boy is hiding his bits so sonographer thinks girl because they don’t see any dangly bits. It’s much less likely that a sonographer would ‘see’ boy bits and it turns out they weren’t boy bits, if that makes sense.

The second part of your answer is exactly what they said today at the scan.

Just means more shopping for me 😍

My 20 weeks scan said a dd. 32 week scan said dd.
Ds arrived at 40 weeks.

The baby can wear clothes of any colour

Yes, but OP is allowed to not want to put her baby in very gendered clothes aimed at the opposite sex, as often people only have that to go on when guessing if the baby is male or female. Much as the baby won't care, she probably will. OP I would get some fairly neutral clothes (beige/white/cream/multicoloured/green/orange etc) for newborn DS or possibly DD. You can always buy something more definitely girl or boy specific when he or she is here. My DS had a lot of more neutral clothes and these were all passed down to DD.
Santaisstilleatingmincepies · 14/01/2022 22:37

After 5 db's my dd wanted to spoil a dsis and I wasn't going to stop her... If that meant a pink mountain so be it... Poor bairn got another db!!

Agreed so take the pink back and buy clothes of lots of different colours.

QueenLagertha · 15/01/2022 10:56

There's plenty of cases where a baby girl has been mistaken for a boy even later on, due to the genitals being swollen. Looks like you've just have to wait until the birth to confirm OP.

Derbee · 15/01/2022 11:52

If you’re desperate to know, can’t you do one of those home blood tests?

We have decided to get some netural bits and wait till next scan or when he/she is born. I can always sendy mum of shopping after birth if needed haha.

Honestly, if there's any type of confusion or doubt just get neutral clothes that would work for either sex. It doesn't have to be white/grey as plenty of brighter colours work too. Then top up with some more specific, overtly 'gendered' bits when they arrive, if that's what you'd like.

Plenty of people don't find out what they're having. We didn't find out with either pregnancy but still managed to dress both DSs perfectly adequately Smile

Derbee · 15/01/2022 14:35

You can also buy lovely things that will work for boys and girls, without feeling that everything has to be white and neutral.

We don’t know what we’re having. We have blue baby grows with little ducks on them, red baby grows with birds on them, yellow baby grows with tractors and cows on them. Etc etc

webuiltthiscityonrockandwheat · 15/01/2022 19:10

My 20 week scan was unclear so I asked the sonographer to check at my cervical length scan. She reckoned girl but said never trust a girl until she's in the cot. I would guess it's a bit just because it's less common to mistake a girl for a boy than the other way round

Hayls07 · 25/02/2022 19:28

Could anyone make sense of this? I'm sure that's a foot haha I can tell the gender either usually I can see but I'm stuck 😂 14 week scan x
