I had my first antenatal appointment yesterday with my fabulous consultant who seems to be absolutely on the ball!

I had a Lletz procedure for Cin3 (turned out only to be cin1!) back in Jan 2021, had 10mm (depth) x 12mm (width) taken.

My consultant yesterday said the standard is to only take 7mm away, which scared me as he was talking about pre-term labour & the possibility of putting a stitch in which in turn can cause miscarriage- although he said the risk is small

I have several cervical length scans booked in to keep an eye on it but I just wanted to chat to somebody who has been through it as the whole thing is very triggering for me

Has anybody else had a lletz with 10mm taken away & gone on to have a successful pregnancy? I am currently 13+2 & have had no bleeding at all so far, which is good

As i say, im pleased the hospital are on the ball with it but i am scared for my baby

Thank you

I had lletz with 10mm taken away nine months before I fell pregnant. Great that you've got multiple scans booked in to check on your cervical length, I had mine first checked at 21 weeks and it was 3.5, next scan showed it had shortened to 2.5 in a week, then 2.4 the following week. I was too far on for a stitch as had a small leak from hind waters and stitch would have been too risky, so I had three progesterone pessaries a day and regular monitoring. Steroid injections just in case, it was worrying, but I was well looked after. Signed off at 31 weeks because cervix was soft and baby engaged. I was examined at 37 weeks, which was a week after stopping the progesterone and I had dilated to 1-2cm. DD hung in there until 40+5, so all was fine in the end. Currently pregnant with my second and have been referred to a consultant. I'm just seven weeks.

Hope the above helps you, it's a worrying time, but lots of things they can do

This is really interesting, I had a cervical biopsy taken just before I found out I was pregnant so watching with interest! There was a thing to sign about risk of prem birth but when I looked it up it seemed to be two decent studies where one said it gave the risks and one didn't. Did you get automatically referred to the consultant then?

I had lletz for CIN 3 but don’t know how much they took away. Had 3 cervical length scans which were all fine and then after being convinced my son would arrive early I ended up being induced at 40 + 12 so previous lletz doesn’t always mean pre term labour

I had Lletz and a similar amount taken away in two sections due to CIN3 -mine actually was CiN3 when examined. This was between Dc1 and Dc2, slightly longer before my pregnancy, two years rather than your one year since the procedure.
I had my first cervical scan at 16 weeks and then 20 weeks , 22 weeks and 24 weeks. My cervix shortened from 3.7 to 2.8, I didn’t need a stitch however I had prescribed progesterone and had to use pessaries 3 x a day.
I was told to take it easy and I was put on reduced hours for work ( emergency services), I was fit to work but less hours and advised to work from home. The consultant said she’d be surprised if I got past 34 weeks, I had a planned induction not due to the cervix issues but because she was measuring small.
Couldn’t fault the NHS one bit, my treatment was fantastic

(Planned induction was 38 weeks but she came at 37*4 of her own accord)

I had two lletz procedures for CIN3. I have no idea how much was taken as my consultant concentrated on how much was left if you know what I mean? I had a scan and it showed that I was right on the borderline for what they would term risky, so I had to choose whether to get a cervical stitch or not. In the end I got the stitch and was also given progesterone and put on modified bed rest. I understand that the advice you get may vary from consultant to consultant. I had the stitch taken out at 37 weeks and went into labour at 38 weeks

My lletz was 15x13x18mm. It was flagged at my booking appointment around 8 weeks. I had a cervical length scan at 19 weeks then 23 weeks (it should have been more regular me than this but my trust are fairly awful at antenatal care it turns out…) anyway all was fine. Cervix measured 3.8 then 3.7. Anything over 2.5 was fine. Now 25 weeks so of course things could change but so far all is fine! X

@aimeeeleanor

I had lletz procedure twice, many of years ago.

I am currently 18 weeks pregnant with an IVF baby after having two ectopic pregnancies where my tubes were removed.

At 15 weeks I had a haematoma that burnt in my cervix, I was rushed to hospital and admitted. It was then discovered that my cervix was short, currently measuring 21mm.

A week later after the bleeding had stopped I saw a consultant who advised me going forward to have a stitch put in.

10 days later, on the 7th Jan I had the stitch put in. I was told they were just able to do the procedure as my cervix had shortened from 21mm to 11mm.. very short

I have also been prescribed pessaries twice daily and been told to rest as much as possible. I go back next week for a follow up appointments

I'm praying and hoping the stitch works and I can get through pregnancy to at least 34/35 weeks.
