NHS patient facing workers

Hi,
For those who work for the NHS I’m just wondering whether anyones hospital trusts still have the ‘WFH/not patient facing from 28 weeks pregnant’ guidance in place? My trust no longer does but I think some trusts still do. I can’t find any clear info on NHS employees website.

I'm an hca and I left the ward at 28 weeks. No one seemed to know what the official guidance was though. This was in October when there were hardly any covid patients so I would think now my trust would definitely say not patient facing from 28 weeks.

Hi I've been advised I will be none patient facing from 28 weeks. Have you tried self referring to occupational health to see what they, look at your trust policies and also speak to your union if you have one. Hope you manage to get some support with this x

I'm in Scotland and my trust seems to want WFH after 28 weeks. I think this is because of covid though.

I've been patient-facing throughout, just about to start mat leave at 36 weeks.

My trust has none patient facing from 28 weeks still, however, this could still be in the hospital. Ie we had a HCA who helped out our admin team, but the admin team were based in our dept and had to go in/out the clinical area moving notes.

I was lucky in that my specific role could be fully done from home, which I did from about 22 weeks. I had issues with SPD/mobility, but I was also worried about a couple covid positive cases we’d had in the dept - from staff though not patients!

I found it very difficult to find any information on this too. I'm 29 weeks atm, and am currently using up all the remaining annual leave for this year while my manager tries to find a place to redeploy me as there's no scope to WFH. If she's unsuccessful, I'll be classed as self isolating from then on.

PigeonPigPie · 12/01/2022 08:59

My trust still does non-patient facing from 28 weeks. I've been WFH since then.

PigeonPigPie · 12/01/2022 09:00

Just to add - I was redeployed to a different team to facilitate this as I was working on the ward in my usual role.

Bestkindaparty · 12/01/2022 10:41

I'm 28 weeks next week and have been told I'll be doing admin work in the office until I start mat leave

McHelenz · 12/01/2022 14:43

We are none patient facing from 28 weeks.

I did speak to one occupational health nurse who seemed to think differently but my line manager had a document that was current and stated it was recommended. Sorry I can't remember the document it may have come from RCOG?

AliceS1994 · 12/01/2022 15:01

My trust no longer has this policy. I am still working patient facing and will do so until I leave at 36 weeks (31 now)

LW89 · 12/01/2022 17:51

Our OH is by an external company and they suggest WFH from 28 weeks however don’t enforce it. I work on PICU but thankfully have quite a bit of annual leave to take before my mat leave so I’ll actually finish at 31 weeks. Just find it bizarre that there is no consistency to the advice. Thanks for all the responses.

I'm also in mental health services - community.. I was told to work from home from 28 weeks. Especially with the rate of infection currently.

Mae2020 · 12/01/2022 21:56

I'm a HCSW and was taken off of patient facing duties but remained on the ward doing small clerical/admin bits - we even had several covid outbreaks and I was still left on the ward. My trust no longer has WFH in place but is still highly recommended for all patient facing staff to be made non patient facing. I'd suggest enquiring about redeployment! I did once covid made a reappearance in our hospital but nothing was done. Finally on mat leave now 😌

Mae2020 · 29/01/2022 09:35

I'm a HCSW on a ward and was made none patient facing from 28 weeks. I was still on the ward but my duties changed to admin x
