Hello,

Sorry if this has been asked recently; I'm currently 21 weeks (next midwife appointment is in 3 weeks) - will the midwife automatically give this vaccine at the appointment or is this something I need to book in separately for with the surgery? Sorry, midwife hasn't previously mentioned how I go about getting the vaccine.

Thank you,

It varies. I've heard people get it at their 20 week scan, some in antenatal clinics. My midwife is at my GP practice and told me Id need to book in with the practice nurse to get it done (which was yesterday at 22 weeks). Speak to your midwife to find out what the procedure is in your area.

I had to book mine in separately with the surgery. I think my midwife mentioned it at about this time though and I got booked in within a couple of days.

JustWonderingIfYou · 11/01/2022 14:41

I've always booked separately with the nurse. Always get with flu vaccine at the same time

At my 16 weeks check with my midwife she just told me I was ready for it and to book at reception with my surgery, which I did and it was a separate appointment x

I had to book mine in separately with the GP surgery.

Treesuphooray · 11/01/2022 14:48

I thought the midwife would do mine and then realised at 30 weeks they hadn’t and I had to book it in with the surgery. Best check!

yorkshireteaspoonie · 11/01/2022 14:55

I had to book a separate appointment for mine

jolota · 11/01/2022 15:01

Contact your midwife or GP for clarification - my midwife told me I was due to get it but it was my responsibility to book it with the GP receptionist

babyboybluewithnumbertwox · 11/01/2022 15:41

I got mine at my 16 week midwife appointment 😊 Scotland based!

IloveGod2 · 11/01/2022 16:11

@fejkalove you have to book it with your GP or at the maternity hospital. I just had mines today at 37 weeks. I prefer to take it closer to the end of all my pregnancies cos of when baby will arrive, not sure if there is a specific time to take it ( you can ask your midwife or consultant).

Thanks all, will give the GP a call tomorrow! Smile

I booked mine through the GP. At my hospital they sometimes offer it when you have the 20 week scan, but they didn't mention it and I forgot to ask so rang up the next day and organised it separately. I managed to get a next day appointment though, so no harm done!

Derbee · 12/01/2022 12:56

I was offered it at the hospital when I had my 20 week scan. Also had the flu jab at the same time. I think it varies by trust

DuneFan · 12/01/2022 13:08

My midwife did it (England) at one of the routine appointments, she did my flu jab herself too. Depending on how easy it is to get through to your surgery (it's a Mission to get through to mine) might be worth ringing the midwife to check.

fejkalove · 12/01/2022 13:15

Thanks all, called my GP surgery and have booked in with the nurse for it 15 mins before my next midwife appointment so assume midwife can't administer it.
