34 + 4 today! Went into hospital this morning with painful contractions, 10 minutes apart (often less) and lasting anywhere between 40 seconds and 2 mins. They checked me out, said cervix was closed and high up and fetal fibronectin swab came back at zero probability of early labour.

Has anyone had any experience with fFN being wrong? The contractions are painful, back to front and down my thighs. I have painful BHx anyway but not as painful as these and yet nothing is happening? I am worried that on top of all the other pain I am experiencing I now have this to deal with for 2 weeks before my planned section.

Ah bless you. I’m sorry, I hope it tapers off.

I’ve had similar in all of my pregnancies. The first time it resulted in my waters breaking at 34 weeks, but I didn’t go into labour and the contractions eventually petered off after about 48 hours.

In my second pregnancy I had it happen lots towards the end. It was incredibly infuriating and would stop for a few days, then continue for 8-12 hours, then stop, then a few days later the same thing. It carried on til I delivered unfortunately, although I did have a lovely easy labour which apparently could be partly down to all the practice contractions.

With this pregnancy I had 8 hours of contractions 5 minutes apart lasting a minute at 29 weeks, only for it to stop completely Confused lots of random days of contractions since but nothing concrete thankfully.

The fetal fibronectin test can be wrong, and is detecting whether or not the hormone that’s released when the amniotic sack starts to come away from the uterus is present or not. It isn’t very likely to be wrong though, and I’d say if you aren’t dilating either baby probably won’t be making their arrival just yet.

I hope your contractions stop soon. The uterus is a muscle and will tire like any other muscle would. It shouldn’t carry on indefinitely xx

I had these too, about ten days before I eventually went into labour properly. They lasted about eight hours I think, then they stopped. Ten days later they started again, and like enwi I also had a fast easy labour. Was 8cm before I even needed paracetamol Grin Hopefully this is similar for you, and the contractions stop today, but come back when you're at term.
