Assembiling cot

DP has been told by some random people not to asemble the cot until the baby gets home...
I am thinking not practical - what if there are bits missing and where will baby sleep!
Comments please.

Oh lord is this the "it's unlucky" rubbish!

If the baby is going straight into the cot (ie no moses basket etc) then yes, of COURSE assemble it!

Assemble cot unless you have specific religious stuff going on or you are planning to use moses basket/carry cot then can wait.

lulumama · 23/12/2007 22:14

people tend to say it as a superstitious thing.... not to tempt fate, entirely up to you

tell him to speak to my dh.

I couldn't put the cot up second time round - my SPD was bad and I had carpal tunnel.

Of course, dh, who has major lazygitis, decided, in his ultimate wisdom, to leave the cot as we had 'plenty of time'.

Cue me going into labour at 37 weeks and rather than driving straight to the hospital, I was bent over double trying to interpret the pictures on the Ikea instructions while dh tried to get the allen key to fit in all sorts of places . I was NOT amused and we only made it to the hospital JUST in time.

Give him the toolbox, put the cot in your room and leave him to it .

we put our cot up before each DC arrived, prob about a month before. that was a lovely time, making the cot and room look just how I wanted it for the baby (yes all the nest-building thing. we went with the 'superstition' thing and didnt bring the pram for DS1 to our house, it was at my mums but tbh i dunno what all that was about when i think back.

like lulu says. tis your choice. do it if you want to - don't feel pressured if you don't!!

Same as gigglewitch, I loved going in and looking at the room all ready

foxinsocks · 23/12/2007 22:29

yes, we put ours up because that's where the baby was going to sleep (we didn't do moses baskets or anything).

It is up to you though. If you want it up, then get it done. It is quite nice to go through all the linen etc. and make sure it's all ready. As someone said, all part of nesting .

After the baby is born managing to have a shower before 5pm will become a major achievement, let alone DIY. Save yourself the stress and get him to put it up now.
