Feeling guilty because I took Oramorph in A and E with kidney stones

Hi everyone , New Year’s Eve I ended up in A +E with kidney stones, it caused a lot of trauma and I was bleeding a lot through my urethral when urinating and wiping . The pain was excruciating and my pulse was going 130bpm . I was 14 weeks pregnant . The doctors gave me IV paracetamol and one dose of Oramorph , which didn’t help much with the pain🙈. It took 10 hours and two stones eventually came out 😩.

I have since felt so guilty taking morphine . Since the incident I have spoken to a consultant, gp -as follow up - and two nurses ( one is an early pregnancy nurse ) and they said that Oramorph is absolutely fine and low risk .

I’ve had a follow up scan in EPU and the baby looked really healthy and growing well .

I’m nervous of getting more kidney stones even though I’m drinking my body weight with water and eating healthy throughout the whole pregnancy .

I’m however still feeling guilty and read some bad stuff online . Things like , your child can have developmental issues when growing up etc . Is there anyone out there that had to take opioid during their pregnancy and their child grew up with no cognitive and physical issues ?

Thanks in advance

I would listen to the consultant, the GP and the nurses and stop reading scare stories on the internet.

Why are you feeling guilty? Your body was in pain and needed relief. You were given a suitable pain relief by medical professionals.

Why read things online by strangers? Take a deep breath and calm down it’s a one off opioid not a daily use.

The doctors wouldn’t have prescribed it if it wasn’t safe for you and your baby

Stop reading scare stories on google and relax

There are so many medications that aren't recommended in pregnancy and in those cases drs, pharmacists will make it very clear. If a dr prescribed it to you it is because they are confident it is safe.

You’ve been told by trained medical professionals that it’s fine.

What are you looking to hear?

Thanks everyone . You are right . Time to drop it and enjoy the rest of my pregnancy 👌
Weirdly enough I’m not usually this irrational before pregnancy . I’m just going to peg it down to hormones 😂
