Help! Do I need to go to the hospital?!

I've been contracting for about 13 hours. They're 6 mins apart by strong. When I've called the hospital they say I should try and do more at home but I'm in so much pain. I'm too embarrassed to call again to ask if it's time yet, because they keep saying 4 in 10 but I'm just not getting there. Been about 1 in 6 for about 5-6 hours.

Help!

Ahh congratulations!!

Forgot to say, when I got there, I was 5cm dilated. Obviously they let me stay (thank goodness, my worst nightmare was being sent home). The contractions never got closer together than one in 5 but I really was in complete agony. Mostly they were 1 in 8, even in active labour. On pushing phase they slowed right down to 1 in 10! Just goes to show that the 1-in measurement isn't effective for everyone.
