The other week my DH was driving we were not in a familiar area and a hump back bridge caught him by surpise - you know the kind where your stomach leaves you for a few seconds.
I spent the whole evening stressed out worried that would have harmed the baby. I have since felt movement so assume all is ok, and i have my 20 weeks scan on new years eve so hope all will be well.
Should i worry ?

no , you should not worry

it will not have caused any harm at all

your baby is swimming in and protected by lots of fluid, and the membranes , uterus, and your body. amniotic fluid is a great shock absorber

Snaf · 23/12/2007 14:17

No, don't worry - your baby is very well protected in there. If you have felt normal movements since, that's an extra reassurance. Forget about it and enjoy your scan

Snaf · 23/12/2007 14:17

Ahhh, lulu

paulaplumpbottom · 23/12/2007 14:17

Your baby will be fine, don't worry

lulumama · 23/12/2007 14:20

thought i'd give you the day off, snaf !

Snaf · 23/12/2007 14:22

Nope, am sitting here as usual, waiting to pounce on threads, like the saddo I am.

brusselbeansprouts · 23/12/2007 14:24

Is there a point at which we are supposed to stop driving, or is it as simple as when your bump is on the steering wheel it may be time to move to the passenger seat?!!

lulumama · 23/12/2007 14:27

i hope you are gorging on mince pies and sherry whilst you wait

I was able to drive until term with both DCs, not sure how in hindsight, but i squeezed in !

brusselbeansprouts · 23/12/2007 14:29

Seem to remember being told that 36 weeks was the cut off point but public transport + toddler is not going to be a lot of fun by that point!!

Hmmm, mince pie, now there's an idea...

babylove21 · 23/12/2007 14:41

Thanks very much, i feel more assured now.
I work as a driving instructor, but not sure how long i will be able to continue. Numb bum after a while sitting lol.

hang on, have I missed something?

Are you not meant to drive after 36 weeks?

That would be mad. I have 2 kids already, and also, sometimes, a life. They cannot be serious on that, surely? Can't one just move the seat back ;-)?

brusselbeansprouts · 23/12/2007 15:10

Theoretically, but I am not blessed with very long legs!!

CharlieAndLolasMummy · 23/12/2007 15:13

oh thats a point, nor am I.

babylove21 · 23/12/2007 20:44

i have visions of wooden blocks on pedals.
At least steering wheels are adjustable. But remember you should sit as far back as is comfortable anyway to minimise any risk of being damaged by the airbag going off, pregnant or not.

Babylove, you're a driving instructor so am I. How have you coped with sickness??

babylove21 · 26/12/2007 20:14

I had sickness before i knew i was pregnant, but i just thought i had a virus lol. Once i knew it was down to pregnancy i found it easier to cope with as i at least had the comfort there was something worthwhile because of it.
I found eating little but often best and i had boiled sweets etc to suck during lessons ( incidently they were a treat for pupils too!).
A rich tea biscuit before i got up was the best help. As long as i had something to chew/eat i didnt feel so bad.
What i am having trouble with now at 20 weeks is a numb bum and aching ribs. hour lessons are not so bad but the 2 hours jobs are uncomfortable for the last 30 mins or so.
Although i have not as much work as most, i'm part time.Andi have not told any of my pupils i am pregnant!
