Thanks Smile

I recommend clementines and marmite cashew nuts. Maybe some cereal bars?!

I was induced so conscious mine felt more like an aperitif that you'd have with a large G&T than possibly snacks you'd have in actual labour.

Still lucozade is easier to drink, I had a cup with a long straw and lid that was easier to drink out of than a bottle during labour, Snacks wise, I had breakfast biscuits/bars and Haribo, I wished I'd taken crisps or something savoury.

annlee3817 · 05/01/2022 10:25

The snacks were for after labour for me

Those protein ball things you can buy in boots are great

abbs1 · 05/01/2022 10:28

Im taking some protein bars, cereal bars, lucosade, haribo and crackers and an empty bottle with straw to put the lucosade in so its easier to drink.

Blue Powerade and a Snickers is always my labour fuel.

FelicityBob · 05/01/2022 10:59

Don’t get fizzy lucozade. You need isotonic sports drink, own brand is fine.
Jaffa cakes and jelly babies are good for an energy boost in labour
Cereal bars and bananas for night time breastfeeding hunger

I didn't need/want any snacks in actual labour. I was induced though and in hospital for a week including several days after. I was starving until my dp brought snacks! Cereal bars, nuts (funnily enough Marmite cashew nuts as pp said), fruit and crisps. Also bringing paracetamol this time. I found them too slow to hand them out and I didn't want to pester, so I might as well save the NHS some money.

Starcaller · 05/01/2022 11:34

I took jelly babies but didn't want to eat at all during labour. Demolished then after though! And the flat Lucozade sports drinks, in the Powerade-style bottles.

Sleepyquest · 05/01/2022 11:46

Thanks everyone. I only remember having lucozade before and not touching the food. I just want the snacks to be prepared Grin and DH can eat them if I don't!

Malt loaf is great. Get the pre buttered stuff or butter it yourself prior!

mummyh2016 · 05/01/2022 13:26

I've got lucozade sport, sweets, cereal bars and snackajacks.

bluesky45 · 05/01/2022 13:49

Midwife recommended minstrels to us, as they don't melt and hospitals can be quite warm. I didn't end up eating any snacks while in labour but the minstrels were nice for after.

Catipepo · 05/01/2022 15:02

Definitely take something for your DH that's more substantial and not full of sugar (sugar crash). Due to covid they often can't leave the labour ward. We're planning on sandwiches in a little cool bag but our friend took pot noodles and the midwives filled it up with hot water for them.

For you, I'd also say think of some more savoury snacks, lucosade plus sweet snacks gets very sickly quickly.

Lacedwithgrace · 05/01/2022 15:08

Protein granola bars, ritz crackers, chocolate, unmessy fruit like banana or raisins. Lucozade, apple juice, flavoured water. Something for energy, something for fun, something for hydration was what my midwife told me

SillyBry · 05/01/2022 16:21

First time I took cereal bars etc... but the gas and air made my throat so dry, I couldn't swallow anything without chewing it 60000 times!! So second time, I took full strength lucozade and some jelly babies. Then hubby went to Asda next door for a sandwich, bag of crisps and a bottle of coke for after.
My labours have all been short, but I would much rather get my calories through drink (e.g. lucozade) as I couldn't digest much.
