24 weeks movement, decreased movement

The last two weeks my baby girl has been soo quiet! I lie down for a few hours and barely feel her move at all, the same throughout the day when I lie down.

Then occasionally at 2am if I've been up she has been going crazy. But overall day to day I've just not felt her, right now I haven't felt her move all day and I've been poking and laid on my side etc.

3 weeks ago I felt her all day every day for about a week which is why I'm nervous!! Anyone had this type of experience?

Please call the maternity unit and get checked, better to be safe than sorry

Always call your triage line if you noticed movements are reduced. It’s not true that you feel fewer movements as baby gets bigger (and definitely not true at 24 weeks). This happened to me about the same stage and it was just a change of position - but always better to check with a midwife.

Please call the maternity unit.

Lack of movement due to lack of space isn't entirely true, even at the end of the pregnancy you should feel regular movements, just maybe not as pronounced as when they had more room if that makes sense

If you feel any change in movements you need to call the maternity unit so they can advise.

Amammai · 04/01/2022 22:54

It is absolutely not true that a baby’s movements change because they ‘run out of space’ That is very dangerous mis information. Baby’s all have their own patterns but should be moving right up to labour and throughout!

Any concerns re: movements should be called through to your maternity unit. Let a trained professional check you or decide if it is anything to worry about. They will never mind you calling.

Any concerns please call your maternity unit ASAP.

PP comment about reduced movements in growth is very dangerous misinformation.

The maternity unit will not mind seeing you and putting your mind at rest.

Wishing you all the best OP

‘I've routinely hear you may feel movement less frequently as they grow and become restricted for space.’

I no this was well meaning but it’s 100% wrong advice, especially at 24 weeks! Babies movement doesn’t decrease, any chance should be mentioned to professionals. But as baby is still small they have probably just moved positions so don’t panic, but don’t ever be afraid to get checked.

Call your midwife/triage they would much rather check for lack of movement than not and something be missed.

I was told to drink a cold drink initially to see if he woke up and lay on my left
