ECV - Experiences?

At my 34 week appointment before Christmas, my midwife said she wasn't 100% sure what position baby was in, but she thinks baby was breeched. I went in for monitoring at the hospital a couple days after this for reduced movements, and the midwife there said she was pretty sure baby wasn't breeched and was head down.

I am fairly certain baby is head down as I always feel the stronger 'kicks' up underneath my ribs.

I am 36+2 today and have my 36 week appointment this afternoon... so if they still think baby is breeched, I will need to choose either a ECV or book in a c section. This is my first pregnancy and has been completely low risk up to this point, so would rather not have a c section if I can help it.

So my question is, those of you that have had breeched babies around 36 weeks, did you have an ECV and if so, did it work and you went on to have a normal vaginal birth? Or did it not work and you had to proceed with a c section? FTM here and a bit nervous about it all!!

I had a successful ECV at 37 weeks, it was super quick and easy! Definitely uncomfortable, and at one point genuinely painful for about 10 seconds, but the whole thing was over with in about 2 minutes.
I did get lucky that baby was in a good position for it and wasn’t engaged in my pelvis at all, as that’s the most common reason they fail, and they do generally only have a 50/50 chance of success. I was happy to try with those odds though as I really wanted to avoid a c-section.
Not given birth yet so hoping baby stays head down now but if they do turn again I wouldn’t hesitate to have another ECV if possible.

Different experience, my consultant was heavily pushing an ECV and I had a bad gut feeling and refused. His head was completely lodged in my ribs and he had the cord around his neck multiple times, it turned out when I had my c-section. I'm very glad I didn't opt for the ECV now. Go with your gut. My baby hadn't gone head down once and had been breech the whole pregnancy and in my mind there had to be a reason for that.

Good luck! Baby can turn back, be aware of this.

I had an ECV. It didn't work but it wasn't painful, just a bit uncomfortable, so I'm glad I gave it a go. I read up a lot about vaginal births for breech babies and might have tried for one if my baby has been in a frank breech position. I went for a C-section in the end and didn't really have a good experience (with two vaginal births to compare to) but a lot of women do have very positive experiences of planned C-sections.

Following, my baby was breech at 30 weeks growth scan. Don't think she has turned and is still breech now at 32 weeks. I won't be getting the ecv. But want to see stories on it and csection if they chose to not have it ❤️
