Hi 👋🏼

I'm 27+5 weeks pregnant and the baby's been going nuts for 12 hours continuously today. It started just before 6am and it's now almost 6pm. There's been a few 10 minute quiet periods but otherwise it's been some serious amount of activity in there, kicking, rolling, punching etc. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? She does have days when she's definitely more active than others, but should she not go to sleep at some point?

Any change to movement should be checked by maternity. I can't answer this otherwise I'm afraid but sure more posters will be along soon.

Have you eaten anything unusual? Fizzy drinks? Chocolate? I'm thinking excess sugar might be making the baby hyperactive.

You need to get this checked. I don't want to panic you but this can be a sign of a problem. I know a 28weeker delivered after a day of crazy movement, mum went in and a scan showed a problem. May be absolutely nothing and just you being more aware than normal or something but don't delay to get this checked out.

Significantly increased movements can be an indication of baby being in distress. Please go and get checked out and I hope it's nothing more than just a very energetic day for your little one.

Go and get checked just to be on the safe side. It could be nothing but it could be something. Better to be safe than sorry imo. Good luck

I had this with my first baby almost 2yrs ago.
I rang the number i'd been given and they actually laughed at me on the phone as apparently only a lack of movement is to be worried about. I said that's not the case per all the leaflets they had given me. They said I wasn't allowed to go in to be checked as there was no issue.

I think it was my baby turning as she had been breach but at the next scan she was in the right position.

Midwife here. Definitely go and get checked out.

Thanks for all your replies. Ok so here's what I'm thinking: this little girl has been a right kicker since 17 weeks old, she has quiet days and really active days. Around a week ago (27 weeks) her kicks and punches suddenly became massively stronger, and I think perhaps today is just another one of her super active days but with her being so strong already it's quite the storm down there! She's been quieter since 8 pm but there's not many or very long breaks. Movement has been what I'd say is 'normal' this evening. It's just that it's been going all day since 6am that makes me wonder... does she never need a rest? And just to add, it's normal for her to start kicking really early in the morning. I think she's just much stronger now. Does that make sense?

I would still go and get checked out.

A fetus spends most of its time sleeping, but obviously moves in its sleep. With your movements I’d be going in for a check up. The cord could be trapped or wrapped around baby or there could be an issue with your placenta. Not worth the risk of not going in for monitoring

Maighread · 02/01/2022 21:53

I'm 29 weeks and I've noticed my little one is a lot more active the last 2 weeks - I'm in for weekly scans for growth but I'm also thinking it's because she's bigger now so I'm feeling her more. Maybe that's the case but like previous posters have said it is worth checking if it is significant difference

Scirocco · 02/01/2022 22:29

I'd recommend going and getting checked by your maternity assessment unit. Any change in movement patterns is worth getting checked out.

Dontletthemuggglesgetyoudown · 02/01/2022 22:33

It's not worth the risk. Just call the triage unit because an increase of movement is just as concerning as not enough movement

TulipVictory · 02/01/2022 22:42

Please phone in

Hi all 👋🏼

Sorry about the silence. I decided not to go for a checkup in the end, as her movements returned to normal by the evening and all day yesterday.

I had my growth scan today however, and everything looked normal. The little girl is now 1.169kg and it was quite amazing to watch as she was moving her hands to her mouth and opening and closing her mouth all the time. Even the sonographer was really excited to watch it! We both agreed she must be hungry since I was in for a gestational diabetes test at the same time so I hadn't eaten.
