Pain in leg should I worry?

Woke up with major cramp in my leg yesterday morning, so bad I cried and wailed like a two year old anyway my leg still hurts even now kind of like a pulled muscle type pain?

Do you think it's just because of the cramp or something more sinister like (dvt). I had bad leg cramps in my last pregnancy but don't remember whether it carried on hurting for a while after.

Hi

That seems a long time for a cramp. You may have pulled a muscle, but the seriousness of DVT (and the greater likelihood of it happening in pregnancy) means that I suggest calling someone, even good old NHS Direct for some advice.

Let us know what they say! xx

Yes I would phone a doctor/midwife.

Is it red/hot/swollen? These are all symptoms of DVT, but sometimes the only symptom is pain.

agree..probably just soreness left over from a cramp, but pregnancy does put you at higher risk of DVT , so definitely get checked out...

Hi ConnorTraceptive. Exactly the same thing happened to me. I had the most horrendous cramp in my lower left leg and the after pain lasted for about 3 days - like I'd done a 20 mile hike up a mountain. Like you I was very worried and I went to the out of hours GP. He confirmed it was just from the cramp, but he did take it seriously and said I'd done the right thing to go in.

Ok will give nhs direct a buzz first and see what they say, I probably wouldn't be that concerned but I have developed horrendous varicose veins this time round.

no swelling or soreness though.

Right off to phone - Thank you

the feathers were making me sneeze!!

ConnorTraceptive · 22/12/2007 11:25

hmm saying they are very busy and only dealing with urgent calls - will try out of hours doctors

I have always gone straight to out of hours doctor if I'm worried. NHS Direct are pretty useless IME.

ConnorTraceptive · 22/12/2007 11:30

grr - out of hours really busy too am holding.

must be xmas madness, thought the whole world would be at tesco.

that's reassuring twinklemegan

Which bit? NHS Direct is only my own experience. I just find they ask so many questions before you get any advice that if it was urgent you'd be in real trouble.

ConnorTraceptive · 22/12/2007 11:33

they are calling back, lady was very nice though.

Ah that's good then. I'm sure it's fine though. Mine felt just like a pulled muscle pain, because that's what it is I guess. You're doing the right thing to check though.

ConnorTraceptive · 22/12/2007 11:40

yes it is just like a pulled muscle. bugger will have to shave my legs ig they want me to go down and get it checked

Just read this, how did you get on?

ConnorTraceptive · 22/12/2007 21:18

The out of hours doctor phoned back and didn't seemed too concerned, told me to call back if I developed any swelling, redness or chest pains.

If it carries on I will phone again tomorrow evening.
