Hi everyone.

Today me and partner decided to go round town with a few friends. I'm 7 weeks pregnant and have been waking for 4-5hours with sitting down breaks in between. I really worried that all this walking will affect the pregnancy as I had bleeding a week ago. I also had a misscarrige with 1st pregnancy so really Scared that this will cause it again.
Kind comments please x

You need to feel exhausted to do harm to the pregnancy.
I walked up Ben Nevis when 7m pregnant (that fetus is now at Uni).
Hope you feel better soon.

Honestly you’ll be absolutely fine - I went mountain walking in champions when I was 8 weeks pregnant and all was well, just needed to stop for more rest than usual.

I hope you enjoyed your New Years Day stroll x

Champions? Chamonix Lol

I was consultant led due to a high risk pregnancy and she made a HUGE point of telling me to stay active at every appointment. Unless you're running ultramarathons then exercise is actively encouraged in most cases. Just don't suddenly take up something super high intensity.

CaMePlaitPas · 01/01/2022 19:26

Stay active OP, you're going to need stamina for the birth.

More likely you’ve done the baby a lot of good. You probably feel knackered though, that point of pregnancy is like jet lag.

Verbena87 · 01/01/2022 19:30

I have a job where I’m on my feet 6 hours a day, usually with a couple of 20 minute sit downs. I worked all through my pregnancy as well as some long days hillwalking (my favourite was a lady meeting me up in the peaks saying “well done! When are you due?”, and her face when I said “last week”.

There is every chance you have done yourself and baby good.

Pregnancy after loss must be terrifying though, wishing you a happy and healthy journey and a beautiful baby at the end of it. X

Walking cannot cause a miscarriage. Early miscarriages are almost universally out of our control. They are due to chromosomal defects, so a baby that will never live, or other problems that aren't caused by anything you do.

Somerandomgirl · 01/01/2022 20:23

At 7 weeks really it shouldn't be a problem, its later on you shouldnt if you bleed or for other medical reasons... baby is too tiny still , stay active is better x

Verbena87 · 01/01/2022 21:34

Forgot to say, I bled at 6 weeks and again at 15. Never told to stop walking, and baby (finally) decided to leave at 42 weeks and a day!

I'd talk to your GP or see if you can get an appointment with a midwife. That level of activity is more than normal, but maybe you need to have a chat with someone to get a bit of confidence, otherwise you're going to end up doing a lot less than you can or should due to your anxiety

Exercise is hugely beneficial for pregnancy! Women who keep active have larger placentas and better blood flow to the foetus. First trimester can be tough if you feel fatigued and crap, but if you don’t, then go for it. Keep active.

I did a CrossFit competition at 6 weeks pregnant, then had to stop for a bit as I felt pants, but am now again making every effort to keep going to the gym in addition to walking the dog daily through fields and woods. The fitter you are the easier the whole experience will be.

ThirdElephant · 01/01/2022 22:36

It'll be fine. You're encouraged to keep up exercise when pregnant, makes the birth easier.

Anommum · 01/01/2022 22:43

Hi thank you for all the reassurance it really does help. I've been resting all evening. I have a early scan next Tuesday for the bleeding I've been having so fingers crossed.

@Verbena87 I'm glad that it was a successful pregnancy, may I ask why you did bleed if its not too personal?

Ask away. Both times were unexplained, though the second time I saw a really lovely doctor who suggested it might be a cervical ectropion (basically some of the tissue from the inside of your cervical opening rolls to the outside: she demonstrated by pulling her bottom lip down a bit so the delicate inside bit was showing) but that she didn’t want to do an internal given the bleeding so we never really knew. My sister’s middle pregnancy she bled on and off throughout and they never really found the root cause either, but her daughter is a big girl now and yesterday whatsapped me a picture of her New Year’s Day sea swim.

Really hope all goes brilliantly for you too.
