Time off work for appointments

Hello, I am 4 weeks 1 day and under the early pregnancy assessment clinic due to numerous losses. I have been scheduled in for bloods and a scan next week. How did people get the time off work without telling their boss they are pregnant? I'm really not ready to tell anyone yet and my boss cannot keep a secret (very unprofessional I know) any tips ? X

Can you just say it's bloods and appointments to discuss results but not what for. That leaves it open to be anything like a vitamin deficiency, thyroid function...etc and you can be deliberately vague.

Congrats! Depending how you get on with the boss- I'd say its a smear test. Generally- no further questions asked. Or, just a blood test. If asked further, I'd say to check for anaemia, Vit D levels or something vague and general.

I think of you want the time off to be paid then you do have to tell them. Otherwise they may expect you to make the time back up or be unpaid.

Id just say medical appointment

Really depends on your job. If you can get payed for it, tell them. If not, just say medical appointment. You don't have to explain if it's non payed.

I'd book annual leave personally, obviously you shouldn't have to, but if you don't want to invite further questions or speculation then this is the easiest way to do it.

Thanks your all your replies and advice. I work in a school but going to try get annual leave even if it's mornings / afternoons until I'm far along enough to tell them xx

You're legally entitled to paid time off for antenatal appointments, but only after you've told your work you're pregnant. Before you tell them, you'll have to manage it how you would in normal times if you had an appointment on a work day.

If you tell your supervisor in confidence they can approve the time off for appointments and need to keep it from the rest of your colleagues, there's no need to tell everyone if you don't want to.
