Recommendations for newborn nappies

I’d like to go eco friendly if possible (disposable) but if the nappies are going to leak I’d just rather go with decent nappies. Any recommendations please for good nappies for newborns?

Honestly, Tesco's own Fred and flo ones are brilliant. Used them from birth and he's nearly 2 now and still using them. They are brill xx

BebesChamber · 30/12/2021 22:20

Second @grace1991 Fred and flo very good and so are Morrisons own brand :) no need to pay loads for pampers unless they are leaking through the night

MB127 · 30/12/2021 22:23

You go through so many when they're newborn there's no need to spend loads, I just used the Aldi nappies and they were brilliant. Once baby started sleeping through the night - Fred and Flo were better 😊

heaths96 · 30/12/2021 22:31

Used Aldi with both of mine, the Tesco own brand didn't fit well for us (big babies)

There are no eco friendly disposable nappies.
The ones which claim to be "biodegradable" only do so in certain conditions - not in landfill. You would have to compost them at home in a specific way for them to biodegrade.

I would highly rate washable nappies if you want to go for eco friendly. Alternatively, for just standard disposables we found the Aldi Mamia ones good.

Arecklessmanor · 31/12/2021 00:15

@DockOTheBay I'm planning to use disposables for the first few weeks and then switch to reusables.
It sounds like maybe you used a combination so wonder if there are any reusables you would recommend particularly?
I have been looking at cheeky wipes website to order some wipes, but again if travelling or maybe if I don't have enough will probably use some disposable.

Aldi nappies are great!
We have used them since birth and can honestly say we havent had a single issue with them and our 5 week old.
They get my vote!

DockOTheBay · 31/12/2021 03:12

That's really good :) yes we use a combination - she has a disposable overnight and if we are away on holiday and reusables the rest of the time.

We use totsbots bamboozles as they are one of the most absorbent. We hardly ever have leaks except occasionally if I put it on wonky 😂. I wouldn't recommend Bambino Mio as we found they weren't very absorbent and leaked a lot after the first 9 months or so. There is a website called The Nappy Lady which is really good for advise on which nappies would suit you, and also info on washing routines etc.

You will usually need to get two lots of nappies, a newborn set and than an older set which will last from 6 months old (or thereabouts) to potty training. There is a pretty good second hand retail market on Facebook and elsewhere, if that is something you aren't too squeamish about (appreciate its not everyone's cup of tea!)

I'm not a fan of the Tesco nappies. Aldi and Morrisons are far better suited for my newborn x

DoG87 · 31/12/2021 09:18

Thank you for everyone’s advice. With my DD1 I used nappies by Bambo (I think they were called) and also tried Naty but they just leaked and made life with a newborn even more difficult. I had thought about reusable but really need to look into it more. Might start off with disposable nappies then change over to reusable once everything gets more settled and I find my feet with a baby and a 4 year old!

Aldi leaked for me (well my daughter but you know what I mean), lidl nappies however- top knotch!

kikisparks · 31/12/2021 10:59

I’ve found these to be good so far, bought them online mypura.com/ like you I found naty leaked and I think bambo and kit and Kin are too expensive.

Albgo · 31/12/2021 11:00

Lidl newborn are brilliant. They have a little dip at the front so they don't cover up the umbilical cord in the early days

Arecklessmanor · 01/01/2022 21:30

Thank you @DockOTheBay I will take a look at the totshots and the nappy lady website. Good to hear that a combination can work.
DH travels a lot for work and planning that we'll go with him sometimes so the plan would be to use disposables when actually travelling.

Will also look at the mypura ones, thanks @kikisparks

I've received samples/gifts of several brands of newborn nappies and they all have a little dip at the front for the umbilical cord.

Chanel05 · 01/01/2022 22:35

My dd is now nearly 16 months but I've used Aldi nappies since birth (the + sizes as she got bigger as they're more absorbent) and Pampers at night.

blahblahx · 01/01/2022 22:37

Aldi nappies are amazing!! I also use Nutmeg from Morrisons

Blackmagicqueen · 01/01/2022 22:51

Another vote for aldi nappies, also used asda which worked well for dc2

Blackmagicqueen · 01/01/2022 23:02

Though all babies are different; you might be better buying acouple small packs of different ones, and seeing what you prefer. Dc1 for example was long and lean and only pampers fitted snugly enough to prevent leaks, asda were too short and aldi too generous. Pampers didnt work for dc2 and leaked but asda nappies fitted perfectly and then transitioned to aldi pull ups as he got bigger and needed more coverage.

ExpectingLady93 · 01/01/2022 23:11

Aldi or Tesco own brand x
