Hi Mears, I spotted you on another thread and would love to know if you know the answer to this. Long story short...had anti-d after the recommended 72 hours after baby's blood mixed with mine. Is my body likely to have started to produce anti-bodies or is it hard to know?

TIA

Right, midwife has phoned blood bank and confirmed NO signs of my baby's blood mixing with mine and no anibodies - the hospital apparently went into a panic as I was just over 12 weeks and had trauma (it was tiny!) and gave it as standard!!! I told her I'd checked with midwife AND Dr at the hospital and they both confirmed that baby's blood HAD got into mine.....she's quite annoyed as they went over her head and issued it anyway and caused unnecessary panic! She understood my reason for needing to know and said she's the same but now I can go and enjoy Christmas without worrying!

So panic over and thanks for helping my understanding

Good news I knew it just not all add up. BTW, your first baby's blood group should be in your record if you are booked in the same hospital. You can ask what it is. Enjoy your Christmas - hope I didn't get you into a panic.

Not at all, you didn't panic me, it was them and the research I did following what they said! Anyway, all ok so that's the main thing Suppose I was fearing the worst due to having a feeling right from the start that this pregnancy wasn't going to work out. Haven't felt pregnant, just got the bump. Did feel pregnant for about a week early on then it stopped one day and the next day bleeding. Was convinced wasn't going to work out then saw baby at scan at 10 weeks and felt better then all this happened!!! Anyway, I can put all that behind me now

As for checking ds's blood type, I'm hoping for a home birth so not actually booked in at the hospital but I certainly went to the same hospital for my anti-d, scans, when I had bleeding etc. Wouldn't know who to ask though?

Fascinating Reading. I am expecting my 3rd baby, although 17 years after the 2nd!
I am 0 Rh Neg, previous 2 pregnancys i was given Anti-d after delivery.
I am now offered anti D at 27 and 34 weeks or so the leaflet says to cover any bleed that may go undetected.
My 1st baby was slightly jaundiced but 2nd baby not.
Do most opt for the Anti d during pregnancy now ? I know you mention the risk is higher with subsequent pregnancies but i don't understand why.
I don't know my partners blood group - currently badgering him to go and give blood so i can find out lol.
And please what is DD DH etc ??
i am 19+4

Hi babylove

I'm also O-ve, we're very special did you know that? I didn't know til this time round that our blood can be given to anyone so it's a very sort after blood. I HATE have blood tests and never thought I'd ever properly 'give blood' but I've decided as we're rare and so needed, I'm going to start giving after baby/bf etc.

Even 5 years ago they never gave anti-d's til after the birth, it's all changed hasn't it.

As for DH etc. The 'Acronym List' at the top of the page shows everything. DH is Darling Husband, DS/DD are Darling Son/Daughter.

Good luck with your pregnancy and welcome to Mumsnet

Between my first and second pregnancy my local health authority introduced routine prophylactic (?) anti-d injections at three dates during the pregnancy.

DD has Apositive blood, and I had anti-d after she was born following blood tests on us both (2003).

I decided not to have the routine injections, but rather to see whether the screening showed antibodies being produced. Had clear tests throughout, and then when ds was born (also Apositive), had anti-d following the blood tests (2005).

I opted out only because I wanted to be sure that the injections were required before having anti-d rather than have it unnecessarily. Not sure whether that's a good thing to have done, but ds healthy and me too. DH is A positive and I am A negative.

My mother is Oneg and always talks about how great her blood is too

LOONEYplayingachristmasTUNEy · 23/12/2007 09:10

POOK - this is why I'm so annoyed at me being lied to and given this anti-d when turns out wasn't necessary!! My dh is A+ve but not sure about ds as his birth is a blur

Thank you for your warm welcome.
I didn't know our blood could be given to anyone - does that mean we can receive blood of any type ??
I spose the chance of DH having same blood group is a little remote.

LOONEYplayingachristmasTUNEy · 23/12/2007 14:15

I'd be surprised if he had the same blood group but anything's possible.

And NO, we can ONLY get our own blood from what the hospital told me last weekend.

Oh Sucks i hope that someone has donted for us then, infact if ours can go to anyone and we can only receive ours then we need get giving blood lol. i don't think you can give blood until a year after childbirth can you ?

LOONEYplayingachristmasTUNEy · 23/12/2007 22:21

This is why I'm talking about giving blood as it sounds VERY important that we do! Is it really a year after having a baby? Well....gives me time to get used to the idea then (my veins hide and each blood test is a nightmare)
