20 weeks: panic over weight loss

I’m 20 weeks pregnant. I weighed myself yesterday and I realised that I weigh the exact same weight as I did the month before I fell pregnant! So I haven’t gained a single pound. I do have a small bump, it’s bigger in the evenings especially. I just looked at my maternity notes and realised that I’d actually lost 5lbs based on my 12-week weigh-in. So I essentially lost 5lbs in the first trimester (I had bad all day sickness and nausea) and now I’ve regained those 5lbs, but no more. I’m still struggling with some nausea. I feel full extremely quickly making it hard to eat a lot. I’ve read up on weight gain in pregnancy and I should be gaining a lot more by now - and 25lbs in total. I’m stressing out and worried about baby. Can anyone offer any words of advice or wisdom please?!

I should add that I was an average, healthy weight before I fell pregnant (not underweight or overweight).

Baby will fine they suck you the host dry of all they need. Take first dibs on all vitamins and minerals.

You generally shouldn't expect to gain any/much weight until the end of pregnancy.

Think of baby as a leech 🤣

You'll be fine. I lost a stone in the first 12 weeks because of sickness. I didn't gain much for ages then in the last few weeks I got up to the right amount of weight gain you're supposed to have. Try not to panic!

I switched to 3 meals and 3 snacks
8am, 10.30 snack, lunch midday, 3pm snack, 5.30-6pm dinner and snack at 7.30

Add more healthy fats to your diet

Cheese and peanut butter are good for this. Also maybe add a bit more butter to things.

Are you eating a varied diet?

Completely normal. I had a BMI of 19 at the start of pregnancy. Lost 10 pounds until the third trimester when I regained it, plus another 4, so gained 4 pounds total. Baby was born weighing 9 pounds and perfectly healthy. Babies take what they need from your body- no need to stress.

Totally normal apparently! I lost 20 pounds in my first trimester because I couldn't hold anything down. 31 weeks now and I am still not back to my pre-pregnancy weight! Basically my first trimester was the only way for me to lose the lockdown pounds I had put on... Grin

I’ve done similar - having lots of smaller meals. Yes, I’ve been making a big effort to eat a varied diet and get lots of nutrients from eggs, avocados, nuts, etc. I guess I just haven’t been eating enough of these foods :/

I wouldn’t worry too much.
Both times I began my pregnancy at 9.5 stone and was about 8 stone after birth, I just couldn’t keep weight on during it.
Sadly this isn’t standard when I’m not pregnant Grin. Both babies were over 8lb.

I slimmed down considerably first time around because my potion sizes halved and I wasn't drinking any wine. Put it all back on again once if given birth, baby absolutely fine
