Not felt the baby move, normal?

I'm 17 weeks tomorrow so still early but I had previously felt some flutters round 13-15 weeks (this is my second baby) but I haven't really felt anything in the past few weeks and I'm really worried. We have a gender scan next week and I'm so anxious in case we have bad news Confused

Hopefully just paranoid but has anyone else experienced similar?
When did you feel proper kicks and movement?

About 17/18 weeks I think OP. Can you call the maternity ward now and just have a quick chat with a midwife? I’m sure they’ll be able to reassure you

EbonanzaScrooge · 26/12/2021 15:35

Anytime between 16-20 weeks can be normal. Every pregnancy is different but if you have any concerns please contact someone immediately. The out of hours service such as NHS24 or 111 depending on where you are can give advice during the festive season if you can’t access your maternity unit.

Very normal. Where’s your placenta? I’ve had 3 anteriors and this is when I first felt them for the first time:

1: 19 weeks
2: 13 weeks very very low down (I’m positive although unbelievably early even for non-anterior)
3: 18 ish weeks reliably. I’m now 25 weeks and it’s only just getting into a pattern.

Midwife told me this week that it’s from now on that you need to be noticing kicks, so you have ages before you need to worry.

I was post 20 weeks before I felt any regular movements

custardbear66 · 26/12/2021 15:40

I posted similar a few weeks back. It's an odd time because you know baby is getting bigger but still can't feel much. I also kept reading that you're supposed to feel more earlier with your second. I'm now 22 weeks and feeling movements daily. It will come. Be patient and try not to worry.

SouthwestSis · 26/12/2021 15:54

I only felt the odd flutter around week 19 and more definite movements around 20-21 weeks.
Now I am counting down the days until I stop getting kicked in the ribs!

baby2due · 26/12/2021 16:11

Thanks for the reassurance ladies. It is maybe too early for me to feel constant movement. I have a gender scan on Friday so hopefully everything is alright and I'm just being paranoid.

I wasn't this worried during my first, but for some reason this time round I'm just overanalysing everything and worrying far too much

Do you or anyone you know have a doppler to put your mind at rest

WakeUpLockie · 26/12/2021 16:15

Dopplers usually just pick up the placenta’s pulse which gives false reassurance. Midwife was listening to heartbeat the other day and I absolutely could not hear what she was hearing - I could hear the ‘heartbeat’, but it was the whooshy beat of the placenta. The baby heartbeat is more clicky apparently. Using a Doppler is a real skill! Unfortunately!

BertieBotts · 26/12/2021 16:18

This happened to me with DC3. With the other two I felt movement from 12-13 weeks consistently, but with DC3 I had a bit early on and then nothing until more like 20 weeks.

He later went breech and back again so I think he just moved around a lot!

SheWolfOFFrancee · 26/12/2021 16:19

Please don’t use a Doppler

I didn’t feel Ds2 until 21 weeks because my anterior was very front and centre and his position

baby2due · 26/12/2021 16:36

Last time I had a scan the lady said I had a tilted womb. Would this affect me being able to feel the baby?

I was told I should feel movement by around 22 weeks and consistent movement by around 28 weeks.

I don't think you need to worry at 18 weeks, baby just needs a bit longer Smile
