Older DC @ school, covid and labour

Just wondering if anyone else due Jan to March time and who have children in school are considering pulling their kids out of school in advance of labour, to help prevent covid positives and potentially meaning having to labour alone??

DD1 in secondary has caught covid, so now DD2 has caught it and both potentially missing out on Xmas and our extended family can no longer visit on Xmas day 😢

So far DH and I are negative.

However it got me thinking, as if this were to happen in the new year we'd be pretty fucked if just before due date...i could honestly do without the stress of worrying husband or i could test positive.

Original plan, DH working from home and going nowhere 2 weeks before due date. But i have one kid in secondary and one in primary.

How do you think the school would react if i explained the situation and took them out and homeschooled instead?

Gah, so bloody stressful!!!

As a secondary school we would completely understand and have had it happen already. It would have to be unauthorised officially but all of our staff wod provide work for your child to support you. We've had staff take early maternity and take their own kids out of school and I would do personally in a heartbeat.

Thanks for this comment, it has given me some hope!

It's a big stressor for me, the idea of having to give birth alone, so knowing the school may potentially be receptive to the idea is calming 😊

@HyphenCobra if they've both got it currently, aren't they unlikely to catch it again in the coming weeks - plus this wave will dissipate. It's bad at the moment but it won't stay at this level for long.

I'm not due until March 😞 so fingers crossed, but i just don't want to be constantly worrying about it.

DC were pretty much asymptomatic so no real clue they were ill.

I've looked at other threads and a lot of teachers seemed to have caught it twice in 4 months 😱

Knowing my luck that would be my two also 😄

No, the lockdowns and previous closures have been shit for DD, her mental health was really affected last year, there is no way I would voluntarily put her in that position again even if it means there is a chance I'll be giving birth alone. Im due in 5 weeks.
I'm not saying this to be rude but when would it end? If you don't want to send them to school because of the risk of catching it 2 months before you're due will you be happy sending them when you have a newborn at home and potentially passing it onto him or her?

IDontDrinkTea · 24/12/2021 07:49

Im due in 3 weeks, not pulling DD from any of her activities as I’d rather not unsettle her. If required, I’ll happily labour alone (probably will anyway though due to lack of childcare)

Wow you two are better than me then 😄

I personally know 3 newborns, one who was massively prem and in hospital who have caught covid and been fine, so less worried about that 🤷

Kids aren't fussed about it either way, so no concerns regarding their mental health.
