Could be a touchy subject but interested to know peoples experiences/opinions on it..

I'm 25 weeks pregnant and had my first covid vaccine prior to this pregnancy, I'm of course due my second but terrified it's going to have a negative effect on my pregnancy. I work for the NHS, so at some point I'm going to need the second dose however I'm so apprehensive about getting it whilst pregnant!

Midwife is constantly on my case about how dangerous it can be in the third trimester and of course I'm approaching that..

What's everyone's experiences? Anyone had the vaccine cause serious side effects during their pregnancy? Torn between what's best!

Thank you x

I had the covid vaccine when i was 27 and 31 weeks pregnant in August/September, it was a very difficult decision for me as I lost my first pregnancy last year at 19 weeks so i was anxious about everything during this pregnancy, but in the end after doing a lot of research I decided to go ahead. I didnt have any reaction to the vaccine apart from a sore arm. My baby arrived at 41 weeks, 9lb, very healthy and 10/10 on his agpars and initial checks. Hes 5 weeks now and a happy and strong 11.5lb baby!

I can recommend @vikilovesfacs on twitter, she is a reproductive immunologist who has created a document listing all the peer reviewed studies to do with the covid vaccine and pregnancy, breastfeeding and ttc (the studies show there is no increased risk of miscarriage or stillbirth after having the vaccine)

I had my second vaccine just before I conceived and had my booster yesterday, I am 21 weeks. Although it has only been 24 hours I have had no negative effects at all.

After my second vaccine I was exhausted for a couple of days and I feel fine after this one (both Pfizer), just a little tender patch on my arm.

It is definitely best for you to have your vaccine as covid is potentially more serious if you are pregnant. I’ve had 2 awful colds since being pregnant so my immune system is definitely not what it was, and covid is the last thing any of us need. Best wishes x

I’d personally recommend you getting the vaccine. The Royal College of Midwives recommends it. The numbers of unvaccinated pregnant women in hospital with Covid last year was scary. The vaccine is based on longstanding vaccinations so I was confident in its safety. I had my booster this morning at 5 weeks pregnant and I’m 100% sure it was the right decision.

I had my first vaccine after 12 weeks and the second after 20. Got the Covid when I was 30 weeks pregant. I'm so glad I had both vaccines as my symptoms were mild; I'm sure would have been worst without the vaccines. Had 3 scans since, baby is growing healthy and nicely. 37+5 today.
Get the vaccine!!!!

I'm a scientist, I work in an area related to the current pandemic and I was vaccinated in my third trimester. Very healthy and happy six month old baby, no side effects for him, just a bit of a sore arm for me. I had no doubt this was the right thing to do, I very strongly felt I didn't want to get covid during pregnancy.

I think once you're past the first trimester it should be fine

Thank you all.

I'm going to get my second dose, it's just finding the right time as the first one made me so poorly!

I think I may opt for it after Christmas is over.

I had my first dose a few days before finding out I was pregnant. Ended up with Covid at 11 weeks, just felt like a bad head cold really but mixed with early pregnancy symptoms! Second vaccine at 16 weeks, and had my booster last week at 33 weeks.

All Pfizer, absolutely no side effects apart from a sore arm. Baby is happy, healthy and growing fine Smile

MrsCremuel · 23/12/2021 19:35

Had 1st at 22 weeks and second at 33. Have a happy healthy 2 month old now, no side effects!

I got my 2nd dose just a few days before I got a positive pregnancy test. Just got my booster on Wednesday at 21 weeks pregnant. My consultant said that a lot of people are unsure of the unknowns but he said it is important to look at what we do know, we know that covid can make pregnant women and their babies very sick. We know that the vaccine has been given to millions of pregnant women around the world with no adverse effects and we know that 98% of pregnant women who were in ICU with covid this year were unvaccinated. For me that is all the information I needed to make the decision. Good luck with whatever you decide, it's not an easy decision.

I had my 2nd dose in my 1st trimester and just had my booster in my third.
Nothing more than a sore arm and means I dont have to be a hermit to feel safer from covid as what's happened in London is about to hit the rest of the country.
Please be extremely careful until you can get your second dose (and a couple of weeks after whilst the immunity builds).
