33 weeks and feel funny

Hi everyone, I have turned 33 weeks and I feel ill. Nauseous, I’ve have diarrhoea but not feel constipated (but still have the urge with diarrhoea), headache and ache in nose, maybe braxton hicks (or mild contractions) and pain at the top of my thighs. I’ve had to come lie down as feel so ill and just funny.

I’m being ridiculous in thinking this could be early labour aren’t I?! I’m struggling to work out if I am having intestinal cramps or uterus cramps. No traditional covid symptoms and all my lateral flows are negative.

Please can you put my overworking mind at rest.

Sorry for all the typos - I feel awful.

I would call my midwife and start timing the cramps.

Fallagain · 22/12/2021 13:58

You have what you think could be contractions. You need to ring the maternity ward and be assessed.

tierneytarny · 22/12/2021 14:00

Thanks both. I’m going to ring the midwife now.
Its hard as I have IBS so trying to determine if it’s just stomach cramps or something more. I’ve literally just walked away from mu home office and straight to bed.

Let your midwife/maternity ward make that assessment for you, whether that’s putting your mind at ease or telling you to come in. Do you have a hospital bag packed?

Here’s hoping it’s just stomach cramps and you feel better soon Flowers

tierneytarny · 22/12/2021 14:18

No hospital bag packed yet but I have the husband on the job….I’ve not even bought anything like nighties yet but if needed I’ll get my MIL to go. Just waiting for a call back now. I’m hoping it’s just illness.

I went into labour at 33 weeks. These were my symptoms:

  • Feeling ill-at-ease and generally uncomfortable
  • Bleeding that got heavier and heavier
  • Feeling of needing to poo but not being able to pass anything
  • Feeling of pressure in lower back that was steady at first, then started to come in waves
  • Pain / discomfort radiating from pelvis to thighs
  • Continuing "Braxton Hicks" (though I had had these consistently from about 20 weeks so on their own they didn't mean much to me)

I did not have:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhoea
  • Headache
  • Any pain whatsoever in my belly

Basically I was having labour contractions but was registering them as pressure in my lower back and bottom, later radiating down to my thighs. It felt nothing at all like I'd thought labour would feel. I went into hospital because of the bleeding, and only twigged on the car ride over that the feelings were coming in regular waves, though I did feel very odd The feeling you describe as "feeling funny" is really familiar to me - that's what I mean by feeling ill-at-ease.

It was a very quick labour in the end - less than four hours from the first symptoms, hour and a half in hospital waiting to be seen (was 10 cm dilated when they finally got someone to me) and less than 30 mins in the delivery room.

@CoalCraft thanks for this. It has helped put me at ease a bit. Hospital aren’t too worried on the telephone but have asked me to call back in a few hours if nothing has changed (or earlier if anything does).

There’s just something ‘not right’. Not sure what it is. I’ve taken to my bed and hoping some paracetamol and rest make things improve.

How are you feeling?

tierneytarny · 22/12/2021 21:13

Still feeling off. I’ve taken some paracetamol and I’ve been in bed ever since. Still some stomach pain but not increasing in severity so presume it’s braxton hicks or baby moving and making me uncomfortable. I’m going to see my community midwife tomorrow for some reassurance.

How’re you feeling OP?

tierneytarny · 26/12/2021 03:05

Still not right and baby is definitely keeping life interesting. The community midwife has been amazing so have another appt after Christmas to check me out again but the hospital seem satisfied that I’m ok. I probably am just over panicking but it’s hard not to isn’t it?!

This sounds similar to how I feel. I'm 32wks and I just don't feel right. I don't have the thigh pain but have all the other things you mentioned in your OP.
Midwife appears to be permanently off sick without being replaced so no one to speak to about it.
The pain was worse than ever this morning and I had to go and lay down several times due to the nausea and 'cramps'. I hadn't eaten anything by then so all I can think is that it's the baby moving around a lot and making life difficult for me. I can't remember being doubled over in pain in my first pregnancy or being this uncomfortable in general.

tierneytarny · 26/12/2021 20:04

I think this is the thing; it’s so different from my first pregnancy. I hope you’re doing ok @PissedOffNeighbour22
