Booster vaccine - first trimester?

Just looking for a bit of advice/others experiences if anyone is willing to share.

I’ve had both my 1st and 2nd vaccinations for Covid. I’m just shy of 5 weeks pregnant now and have had a message about booking my booster. Is this all good to do in the first trimester/has anyone else had theirs and what was your experience?

Obviously very much for the vaccines/boosters but just wondering if it’s best to wait until the second trimester. Trying to find information online is difficult and I only have my first appointment with a midwife in mid Jan.

Really appreciate any thoughts!

I'd be getting it ASAP with how quickly Omicron is sweeping the country. I just had mine at 14 weeks but would have had it at any point if it were available. The risks of getting Covid while pregnant are significant. Pregnant women have just been classed a priority group for getting it too.

I had mine last week and posted the same thing on here. I am 5 weeks too. Every response said to do it, so I did. I had moderna and no side effects apart from a sore arm. Good luck!

RisingStarsToday · 22/12/2021 13:54

Hi @lbe0 the booster can be taken anytime as can the flu vaccine. So you can get it whenever you want.

I am a high risk ivf pregnancy however and my ivf consultant suggested I wait until 2nd trimester for both flu and booster.

Sorry not very helpful but that’s the information I know about it.

I had my second dose of Pfizer at 7 weeks pregnant. Now 30 weeks pregnant all is fine and I've just had my booster. There are no known safety concerns about the vaccine for pregnant women, but plenty of known adverse effects of Covid for pregnant women. With cases of Covid going through the roof at the moment I'm happy to take all the protection I can get!

SouthwestSis · 22/12/2021 14:31

Covid vaccines are safe at any gestation and the longer you wait, the less protection your first 2 jabs will give you and your baby.
Definitely book your booster or go to a walk in centre as soon as you're eligible.
I had pfizer and had nothing more than a sore arm.

Kisskiss · 22/12/2021 14:35

I had my first jab at 13 weeks, then my second at 17.. the midwife/go both said to wait till week 13 to have the shot. Is it possible to shield till you get to week 13?

MimiArm · 22/12/2021 15:41

I had my booster on Sunday and I'm 9 weeks. No side effects except for a sore arm. I too was worried but any guidance I've read said to get it asap so I did.

I had my booster and flu at my booking appointment at 10 weeks as advised by midwife. So strange they advised you 13 weeks, especially as women are considered a priority now, unless it's specific to your circumstances?

OP I was a little unsure but I feel so much safer now I'm covered, had no side-effects, and with numbers so high!

jolota · 22/12/2021 16:28

Had my second vaccine at 9 weeks and booster at 32 weeks.
I saw my midwife before my vaccine at 9 weeks and I told her when it was booked for and she strongly recommended I get it.
You could always call & ask to speak to your GP for reassurance in the meantime if you're not seeing your midwife until January.
The RCOG has some good information about covid with regards to pregnancy and a specific section on vaccines:
www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/coronavirus-covid-19-pregnancy-and-womens-health/
Personally, I was desperate to get my booster to give me extra protection as it's been 5 months since my second vaccine and my husband recently caught covid (though luckily didn't pass it to me somehow!) and everyday I'm hearing of family & friends who are coming down with it, though mostly in the context of ruined Christmas plans rather than severity of illness but it's a bigger risk for those of us who are pregnant.

Jcmars01 · 22/12/2021 18:12

Hi @lbe0, I had my booster this week and I'm 9weeks. Have felt fine apart from a sore arm, I was desperate to get it for Christmas etc and I'm so glad I have. X

Fleur405 · 22/12/2021 18:23

I had my second dose when about 7 weeks pregnant and was told it was safe. See the recent RCOG guidance re boosters - it says it recommends for all pregnant women and doesn’t say anything about gestation. Up until now everyone I know who was double jabbed we’re not catching Covid even if say their kids or close contacts got it. I know three double vaxxed people who have caught it in the last 2 weeks so it’s definitely worth weighing up relative risks. I am 29 weeks and had mine yesterday.

Kisskiss · 22/12/2021 19:03

@DottieDam I think they said 13 weeks just because they weren’t sure and second trimester is generally deemed more stable…
Sorry OP, I know the case count is scary, I just had my baby and I was really worried before I did , as it’s been a long time ( roughly 5 months ) since my 2nd jab

Glago2017 · 22/12/2021 19:59

I had my booster on Saturday and I am 5 weeks. No side effects apart from a sore arm. 👍

AdoptDontShop · 22/12/2021 20:02

Maybe wait a bit longer to be absolutely sure.
Caution is surely the best approach when one is pregnant, especially as no triple vaxxed woman has given birth yet.

Lianna93 · 23/12/2021 00:54

I had my booster & flu during my TWW back in October - I'm almost 13 weeks now :)
Two members caught covid at the start of November but I didn't - did pcr testing & daily LFT and came up negative everytime.
They both had been double jabbed but I was the only one with the booster 🤷🏻‍♀️

London1987 · 23/12/2021 13:38

I’m five weeks pregnant tomorrow and I had my booster vaccine this morning. I am 100% sure this is the right decision.

aspiring2021 · 23/12/2021 18:51

I had my booster vaccine about 10 days ago at 6 weeks. I had mild side effects, sore arm and aches / shivers. They passed within 48 hours.

I had an early scan yesterday and all fine with baby and we saw the heartbeat, so clearly the vaccine hasn’t upset anything there 😃

GivenchyDahhling · 23/12/2021 23:18

I’m in almost exactly the same situation as you.

I have decided not to have my booster. My reasoning is, I had COVID last year and I have my first two vaccines. So, I feel confident I have a decent immunity. However, after my first two vaccines I had horrendous - and I mean, horrendous; worse than actual COVID - side effects. I don’t want the same again, particularly now I’m pregnant (although I’d made the decision prior to that anyway).

IsabelHerna · 24/12/2021 18:27

Hi! Do it as soon as possible OP, Omicron is out there spreading like wildfire.

AdoptDontShop · 24/12/2021 18:35

@IsabelHerna No deaths from Omicron yet. Why are you scaremongering like this?

SouthwestSis · 24/12/2021 19:10

810 people died this week alone from covid....Omicron hasn't even been in the UK a month and already there are several confirmed Omicron deaths.
Why would you take a chance with the health of you and your baby?
