I'm 21+4 and have been feeling quite regular movements for the past couple of weeks. Today baby has been really quiet. I have been out a lot - long walk and then Christmas shopping - but it feels unusual not to feel anything. I had my booster yesterday and even though I went in well informed and happy to have it, I can't help worrying now. However at this stage I don't think they'd be able to do much anyway. Is it quite common to have quiet days at this stage? I've forgotten when I started counting kicks with my first dc!

Ring the maternity assessment ward. None of us can tell you.
(I'll never understand threads like this..)

CoalCraft · 21/12/2021 17:32

Babies are so tiny at this stage OP that they can change position into one where their movements are less obviously. I still completely understandable your concern though OP, and why you'd post asking for experiences / advice.

I would suggest calling your midwife and asking their advice xx

Yes, ring the maternity number you’ve been given. Better to ask than worry.
I know why you’ve started this thread, you’re anxious and you want someone to tell you what to do. Give them a ring. If it’s nothing you can stop worrying, if it’s something you will get help. Either way, it’s the best thing to do. They would rather you rang and asked than fretted all night.

Have a sugary cold drink and lay down to concentrate on movements. If I have a busy day it is hard to feel the baby. It will have nothing to do with the booster as this will not reach the baby at all. Ultimately you will start to build some more antibodies and these will be passed on but this takes a while (weeks rather than days I think). If you still don't feel anything contact your midwife for reassurance. I'm a bit further than you and I couldn't feel anything yesterday. So I contacted the midwife and they sent me to hospital. It was all fine but she shifted to such a position I couldn't feel her. I was really happy I made that call for reassurance. X

Thanks guys. I posted because I'm at that strange stage where baby is big enough to feel movements but on my notes it says to only contact the ward after 28 weeks if you notice reduced movements. Also at this stage with baby being so tiny still, I'm not actually sure if they would even see me. In my first pregnancy there wasn't such a thing around reduced movements, but that was quite a few years ago. It's something I can see myself becoming a bit fixated with if I'm not careful.

It sometimes just helps to hear other peoples experience. I'm not expecting anyone to be able to use a crystal ball to see into my womb. I will have a can of 7up and see what happens.

Any worries, change in movement ring your MAU.

Where's your placenta?

Aarti96 · 21/12/2021 17:48

Definitely call the maternity ward. If you ever have any concerns, don’t be afraid to contact them. It’s better you check now.

I constantly worried throughout my pregnancy when baby had quiet days. I found when I was busy (shopping, taking long walks etc) I hardly noticed movements because I was so preoccupied. As soon as I got home and relaxed, I’d start to feel him kicking again.

Also as pp have said, the baby is so tiny at this stage, they might have flipped into an awkward position so you can’t feel their movements as much.

Just give them a ring and let them know your concerns and put your mind at rest Smile

ShirleyPhallus · 21/12/2021 17:49

Another vote to give them a call, they’ll likely invite you in just to check everything over

BananaPant · 21/12/2021 17:50

Call them !

Now .

Let us know how you get on

Hugs 💕

I've just had my can of pop, sat down and felt two hefty kicks almost immediately. I will remember this for the next time she goes quiet on me.

My sisters a midwife they say having something sugary then lay down on your left side. Could how many movements you feel, anything less than 4 you should call

BarleyMop · 21/12/2021 18:37

I had quiet days which really worried me. My midwife said I shouldn’t expect to feel the baby every day until 25 weeks or so, and no pattern of movement before about 28-30.

Agree that it’s always worth calling if you’re very worried. I had 2 totally quiet days in a row, right before a private scan at 25 weeks. I was convinced it was bad. At the scan, everything was fine. I watched the baby wriggling and kicking on screen, unable to feel ANY of it! It’s amazing how they can hide when they’re still so little.

dierdrebarlow33 · 21/12/2021 18:40

Thank you @BarleyMop this is why I posted, if I were later on I would call without hesitation but at this stage there is no pattern of movement and while kicks are noticeable they do come and go. All my notes say call immediately if movements slow down or stop after 28 weeks.

The way covid is at the moment im sure hospitals wouldn't be encouraging people to come in if they can help it. Thankfully I have felt a few kicks and flutters since I posted but it's always a worry isn't it.

Glad the soda sorted it! Do you have the count the kicks app? Not sure how old you older one/s is/are but I did it with my older ones for my last baby. Like tou it wasn't such a thing when I was pregnant with my first.

Trixiethewhore · 21/12/2021 19:14

My midwife friend suggests to our friends to have an espresso and a dance before panicking.

Baby will usually wake up for that.

Sarah239 · 21/12/2021 19:59

@dierdrebarlow33 I started feeling movements at 17w and then had a couple of days of nothing at 18w which worried me.

Like you I wasn't sure about reduced fetal movement before 24 weeks, only heard about after, so I rang up to ask. The midwife I spoke to said it's normal for there to be no clear pattern until 24 weeks, and that they only worry after 24 weeks. She said at the stage I was at "you could feel loads, then nothing for a week".

I would still encourage you to ring if you are unsure though, everyone is different x
