Vbac

Pregnant with number 2, had a c section with my daughter and at the time the doctors said there is no reason I couldn't give birth vaginally next time but my maternity website have just put a post up about all the risks of a vbac and now I'm absolutely terrifed! I'd really like a vbac as id like more children and I know there's a limit on the number of sections you can have!

Has anyone had a successful vbac?

F - in same position as you OP
Do some more reading across a variety of sources - don’t let one post scare you.
Who put it up?
My midwife gave me information sheets on options and risks for both vbacs and further sections.
My reading was the risk of rupture etc - can be dangerous in practice but the actual risk was relatively low (if you proceed with caution). Like my midwife mentioned not labouring at home, not being induced etc. to try minimise risk etc.

I’m going to set a section date this time (went verrrryyyy overdue last time baby did NOT want to come out) - but if I go naturally I will try for a vbac I think.
Will be treating this birth with a lot of caution as I don’t want another traumatic emcs!

Neither situation is the lovely natural birth I wanted but hey ho - safety is key for me now.

Pretty sure we’ll be done at 2 kids.

Also - have you had a lol online at positive birth stories? I’ve seen quite a few vbac ones

Anotherboy · 19/12/2021 07:58

Yes but there was a 4 year gap! I ended up with forceps but I genuinely don't think that had anything to do with the emcs I had previously. I found the recovery much easier physically, and would prefer the next one to be v. Good luck

Most people I know have had a second c section! Have you seen some success stories?

I was going to follow similar, aim to go into natural labour but if it's a choice of being induced again, then I'd go for an elective c section!

I had a successful vbac last year, it was an amazing experience Smile Yes, there are some risks to be aware of, but there are risks however you choose to give birth, including repeat elective sections. My midwife and consultant were nothing but supportive of my choice and really gave me faith that I could do it. They were pleased when I said that was how I was intending to give birth as outcomes for baby tend to be better with vaginal delivery, although they would have also supported a repeat section if I'd wanted.

If you want to read some amazing vbac stories and get some advice to help you put the risks into context, check out vbac support group uk on Facebook, they're a wealth of knowledge. There are midwives and doulas there, as well as lots of women who have had various experiences with vbacs. Congratulations and good luck on whatever you decide to do Thanks

I had a VBAC with my dc2. There was a 3 year gap between the CS and VBAC but my consultant didn’t suggest having a second CS unless it became necessary.
I went into labour naturally on the morning of my due date. I went in to hospital early so I could be monitored and I was monitored throughout - but for most of that time it was with a mobile monitor so I could walk around.
DD showed a few signs of distress but by then I was pushing and she arrived minutes later, perfectly healthy.
For me, the consultant and midwives expectation that I would have a VBAC made it a really easy choice for me. If they’d offered a CS I might have been swayed as I found my first emergency CS very traumatic. I’m very pleased that I had a VBAC though and it was a positive experience for me.

Hi all,
I had an emergency CS with DS1 in 2019, it was a very traumatic experience which gave me PTSD

I was pregnant again in 2021 and was hoping to have a VBAC. Induction was a big no therefore i scheduled a CS for 41 weeks and crossed my Fingers i would not need it.
At 40+2 i went into labour naturally. First contractions at 4AM, DD out at lunch time with the help of vacuum.
20 months between births.

I'm in the same situation and really not sure what to do for the best. I would love a natural birth but I can't help but feel like it wouldn't go smoothly (based on my past pregnancy/labour experience). I read that there's also something like a 70% of a successful vbac even when everything goes as it should.
