Kidney infection? Ambulance has been sent

Hello. I have had a uti for a while maybe a couple of weeks without really clocking it as so dam busy but it was a bit cloudy and smelt but I didn’t have any stinging so it didn’t register. Had my widwife appointment and they did the urine sample which has come back with a UTI. In the meantime, as it took 5 days, I started with excruciating lower back pain and pain in general pelvis region when peeing. I thought this was just normal pregnancy pains as 25 weeks now but since getting the call yesterday and going on antibiotics have put 2 & 2 together. Also have felt under the weather last couple of days. Looked online and not sure my antibiotics are strong enough for a kidney infection so have called 111 and they have sent an ambulance just waiting now. I said I have a car and can travel but they said they need to check on me and it’s safer to send ambulance. Bit panicked now that it’s more serious than I realised. I have felt baby move today so that’s good. Looking for reassurance do you think it’s a night in hospital on IV antibiotics and did you have any complications? I am annoyed at myself for being a bit apathetic about the uti as I knew the screening was coming but could have got treated a week ago rather than now. Hopefully all will be fine and getting help now.

I had a kidney infection at 21 weeks, no drip or overnight stay, just a change of antibiotics.

Maybe it's more they don't want you in A&E than the fact it's serious. Probably more worried you'd catch covid from being there so trying to minimise risks. I hope so xx

No complications however I did have a recurrent UTI afterwards that didn't disappear for weeks, it took 5 courses of antibiotics with the final one being a 4 week course. I'm now at 34 weeks, finished taking the antibiotics 3 weeks ago so was a long process.

Sorry to post again! If you're waiting a while for an ambulance call maternity triage and they should be able to see you, this should mean you can make your own way there rather than hang around.

Thanks so much that is really helpful to know. Did you have really bad lower back pain around your kidneys? Helpful to know it was a change of antibiotics and home that’s what I am hoping. I am in now being assessed so you never know might be back home later that would be great! Just worried the UTI antibiotics might not touch a kidney infection and don’t want it to affect the little one

I didn't have back pain but I did have pain in my side. I was prescribed different antibiotics for the kidney infection rather than the UTI, can't remember what they were though! I was also given anti sickness tablets as I was being sick with the pain. Hopefully you'll be on your way home soon and on the mend.

This happened to me, went undiagnosed as no typical symptoms and was really poorly by time test/results happened and was admitted by out of hours gp but all it needed was iv fluids and the correct antibiotic for the infection I had, took about 12 hours of that and let me home later on second day as temp had gone down and I just felt loads better, like a different person, aching in back from kidneys had gone def right thing to get seen as they can easily sort you out , hope you feel better soon
