Yes! So much better. The relief at the loss of heartburn and nausea and feeling so uncomfortable all the time! I remember marvelling at how I could really enjoy eating again and how light I felt without a big bump! Like others have said I didn’t even really mind the sleepless nights, I still felt better than I had whilst pregnant.

Bluey18 · 18/12/2021 20:34

The first time I had an emergency c-section which took a long time to recover from and I got an infection and lost a lot of feeling in my stomach permanently.

Second was a VBAC which left me with a bad tear and stress incontinence for quite a while after.

Both were massive improvements on pregnancy. HG was gone, PGP gone, heartburn and acid reflux gone, breathlessness gone, insomnia gone. I literally had a spring in my step after both (pretty awful) births.

Seriously, f*ck pregnancy, its horrendous 🙈😅

abbs1 · 18/12/2021 20:38

I Had severe hyperemesis in my 1st pregnancy and was in hospital on a daily basis for months to keep me and baby alive. Ended up having nurses come to my house. I honestly couldn't wait to have the pregnancy be over. I was still vomitting in labour and once baby was here I felt a thousand times better. I was happy to take the sleepless nights over being sick 24/7.

Im pregnant again and thankfully better medication so im not so sick, but heartburn and feeling like a whale is definitely getting to me running round after a toddler esp now in my 3rd trimester. Don't get me wrong I'm so grateful to have another child after losing my first baby through miscarriage but I'm feeling it a lot more this time round.

DuggeeHugPlease · 18/12/2021 20:41

Yup, instantly much better.
I got so annoyed with all the people telling me to make the most of sleeping and resting while pregnant - bloody impossible when you can't get comfortable whatever you try.

And don't even get me started on those who told me to rest while pregnant with my second - funnily they didn't offer to look after my first to allow that to happen!

twinkletoesbluesky · 18/12/2021 20:46

I know how you feel, currently 38 weeks and getting more uncomfortable by the day. Can't bend, indigestion, can't get comfortable, nausea, the list goes on. I felt so much relieve after DD, can't wait till LO is born Smile

Shoobydooer · 18/12/2021 20:52

Yes - after sailing through my first pregnancy, in my second I developed quite serious antenatal depression among other issues. But when DS was born it went away never to return. Feel very lucky for that.

Lolipoplady · 18/12/2021 20:59

I remember being able to lie on my back comfortably in bed the day after dd was born and it felt like absolute luxury. I hated being pregnant and the relief of it being over was amazing!

HopelesslyHopeful87 · 18/12/2021 21:25

The second they are born you will feel like a new woman. I've had 5 HG pregnancies, 3 of which crippled me with SPD. Severe anaemia in my last one necessitating infusions.

The second that baby comes out you'll feel better. I had a huge PPH with my last baby (he was a 10lb 7oz natural vaginal delivery😱) and even after emergency surgery and losing half my blood volume I still felt better than I did during pregnancy.

HopelesslyHopeful87 · 18/12/2021 21:28

Being able to sleep when baby sleeps is still more sleep than I got in pregnancy.

Being able to lay down in any position in bed is the best feeling.

Being able to breathe.

Being able to bend.

Being able to have a bath without resembling a turtle on its back.

No heartburn/reflux/indigestion/bowel irregularities/constipation/diarrhea/trapped wind.

And you can have wine 🍷😁

Toplowlight · 18/12/2021 21:32

It’s bloody lovely not being pregnant any more! I immediately felt better for it when my son was born.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 18/12/2021 21:32

A million percent, both times. Pregnancy did not suit me, I had HG then morning sickness. I was still vomiting during delivery.

Itstheweekendyasssss · 18/12/2021 21:35

Straight away so much better!

Definitely. I'm not a fan of being pregnant, and that lethargy that comes in the 3rd trimester is awful. That lethargy has always vanished as soon as I've had the baby, and I'm much happier. I'm a much bigger fan of the newborn stage than of the being pregnant stage!

Loving this thread! Pregnancy is definitely a means to an end for me. I’m 39+1 with dc2. My first pregnancy was actually worse, and I didn’t feel amazing afterwards as I’d been sleeping so badly and had 4 nights of minimal sleep during and after labour, but this time around I know it’s my last pregnancy and I cannot wait to have this baby Smile
No more PGP, heartburn, backache… bring it on!

Coffeeshopcookies · 19/12/2021 13:14

Absolutely despised pregnancy! Post partum was horrible as well because I BF for a long time and I could feel the hormones were keeping my body in a state that wasn't how it was supposed to be. It wasn't so much the weight but a general state of bleurgh-ness where my periods came more often, I had constant headaches, tiredness, and the feeling something was out of whack. It was only a full year after weaning that I feel everything is back the way it was before pregnancy.

A million times yes!

I hated every minute of pregnancy with my first. Low blood pressure and iron meant I felt unwel constantly, and I was so desperate to meet my little one. When she was born I was ecstatically happy and didn’t experience any post baby blues or hormonal issues like I’d anticipated, but I put this down to the fact I’d spent my entire life wanting to be a mother.

With my second the pregnancy was better on the whole but towards the third trimester I developed SPD. By the time she was born I was in agony. I wasn’t excited to meet her, I just desperately wanted the pain to go away. Covid had just started and my mood was very low, I was sleeping terribly and honestly I was terrified that I was going to feel just as awful but with a newborn too look after too. I didn’t feel like my body had any more to give.

Well the minute I gave birth I felt exactly as I did with my first. Ecstatically happy. Any recovery from birth or post partum struggles was less all
-consuming than the horrors of pregnancy and I honestly spent the first few months in a bubble of happiness.

This time around (I’m 32 weeks), I can feel the worries creeping in again of “how can I be finding life SO hard already? How much harder can it possibly get?” But experience tells me it won’t be like that. Pregnancy is ducking hard, and in a totally different way to post partum/ newborn stage. I’d imagine everyone finds the two different but for me, the fact that someone else can take some of the burden with a newborn is the biggest relief. You can’t pass your bump to someone else and enjoy 5 minutes pregnancy-symptom-free peace!

Good luck xx

brokeneurotrash · 19/12/2021 16:08

I was so happy not to be pregnant anymore !

Immediately, you can breathe again. It's amazing.

I stopped feeling sick, slept better! I slept more with a newborn, than I did when I was pregnant.

I had a c section too and I still felt better recovering form that than the constant nausea, headaches, PGP, breathlessness, insomnia of being pregnant !

enjoying this thread a lot! keep comig

Ruibies · 20/12/2021 12:43

This thread is wonderful. I'm only 20 weeks with my first and really not enjoying it - especially knowing that the worst is yet to come on feeling huge and not sleeping, probably more heartburn and backache. I thought I would get in the groove as soon as the sickness stopped, but my bump feels huge already, I'm still tired all the time, and it's just impacting me and my body more than I expected. Can't wait to not be pregnant next spring!
