COVID booster in 1st Trimester

Hi all,

I’m currently 6 weeks pregnant and debating when to have my Pfizer booster. I have read the research and now guidance is to have it at any stage during pregnancy, but I would like to know for women in their 1st trimestre, did they have the COVID vaccine and if everything went well. I’m just trying to find reassurance so that I have it soon rather than after my 1st trimester, with the omicron variety going around. Thank you so much!

I got my booster+flu at the same time (I work in healthcare) at around 3 weeks pregnant - I got my BFP later on in the same week after having them. It's still early days for me as only 6+4 now but so far so good!

I have had 3 miscarriages this year. I hadn't had any vaccines during those times as like that was nervous when trying for a baby. After the third miscarriage I had my 2 vaccines and a month later found out I was pregnant. I am currently 15 weeks pregnancy. Due my booster today. Reluctant to get it but don't want to regret not getting it with this new variant and putting me or my baby at risk. Hope this reassures you a little bit.
@Fuzzyduck21 this new variant is so infectious that if you have kids in school you have very little chance of avoiding it for the next 8 weeks.

Here is a good Q&A including links to evidence
www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/coronavirus-covid-19-pregnancy-and-womens-health/covid-19-vaccines-and-pregnancy/covid-19-vaccines-pregnancy-and-breastfeeding/

What you describe about "Sheila at number 5" would be anecdotes rather than data.
Observational studies are legitimate forms of evidence and with tens of thousands of women now having given birth to healthy babies having had covid vaccines in pregnancy, they help give more certainty that covid jabs are safe at ANY gestation in pregnancy.
Please go ahead and get your booster, 2 vaccines are not sufficient protection against omicron, and a booster will give you and your baby the best possible protection.
This, it's not just Sheila at number 5, it's real world data on a population scale (tens of thousands of women), from multiple countries. One person's experience couldn't tell us anything, but at this level, this data can.

Covid is dangerous for pregnant women. That is for definite. I personally would get vaccinated, this latest incarnation is incredibly virulent, the probability is that you will catch covid

I went for my booster today and was told no. The nurse said I should not be having it until after the 12th week of pregnancy. I questioned it and she followed on by saying, "Your body, your choice but the advice ie not to have it." I got scared and didn't have it, thought I must have been in the wrong. I can see now that she was the wrong one. Why is this not clear to those giving the vaccinations? I am so annoyed.

Fuzzyduck21 · 19/12/2021 13:58

Oh dear sorry you got that advice @sheiselectric. It is wrong and outdated. I would definitely write in and complain.

I had my booster, reluctantly, and hope for the best for my scan on 10th Jan... they were great and didn't pressure me and actually said there is a lot of scaremongering going on at the mo and if I'm careful I may not even get it. I only got it as my kids are at school and thats how I would catch it as I am obsessively careful about covid. Now I'll be cross if they have to homeschool in Jan as I wouldn't have had the jab yet but we can't see into the future. Everyone at the vaccine place was lovely as always even when I was sobbing about it! I just wish we didnt have to make these decisions in the first place.

SouthwestSis · 19/12/2021 14:00

You definitely need to feed this back to the vaccination centre @sheiselectric as it is kost definitely incorrect advice!
