Leaking Amniotic Fluid?

I'm 33 + 4 and a self-professed worrier. I have definitely been to the maternity unit quite a few times for false alarms already!

So, two days ago I got out of bed and went for a shower. I pottered around for a bit afterwards, but then noticed the bed (see photo). I immediately thought my waters must have broken. I pulled up the sheet and looked at the mattress, and the water had soaked right through in a puddle.

So I got my husband and we went to the car to go to the hospital - it's obviously too early yet for the baby to come so needed to get it checked out, but I will also be having a c-section, so have been told to go straight to hospital if the waters break.

The hospital is 10 minutes away. Just as we were approaching, it occurred to me that I had lain down on the bottom of the bed with my hair in a towel and my head in the middle of the bed while my husband trimmed down there for me (yeah, glamorous, I know!). So we decided it must be that. I really didn't fancy waiting hours in the hospital to be seen, and I was also quite embarrassed at how many times I have been for false alarms.

But when we got home, I looked at it again, and there was so much water that I was wondering how my hair could have soaked through the towel, sheet, and mattress so much in just two minutes. So I really wasn't sure and I called the hospital to ask for advice.

They told me to put a pad on and monitor it, which I did. But the thing is that the pad felt slightly damp but not wet - it could have been discharge. So I called again and they told me I could go in to be checked if I wanted.

I eventually did (embarrassed), and they did a swab, an ultrasound of the baby (fluid still there in the uterus), and then checked the baby's heart. All fine. However, the midwife did say I was having contractions, which I didn't feel, but that it might be BH. She wanted me to get an ultrasound of the cervix to see if it was dilated, but the doctor said no, as she had looked (with her eyes, I mean) while doing the swab, and it was closed. So they sent me off, and they told me maybe I pissed myself (baby is breech, so definitely a possibility!).

Fast forward two days and I've been finding that my pants the last two days are just kind of damp. So I am still worried that I am leaking fluid. I've literally just been checked out, so I feel really stupid about calling up yet again, especially as I am really not sure, but the dampness does seem to be different to normal discharge.

I also feel like it might be slightly itchy and also burns very slightly when I pee, but maybe this is hypochondria talking - I honestly don't know! Maybe I have a UTI? Maybe it's amniotic fluid? Maybe it's nothing!

What would you do? I don't want to continually bother them about nothing, and I AM an extreme worrier!

Hi! Don’t be embarrassed. It’s their job to make sure you and baby are safe. Just phone back and ask their advice.
For what’s it’s worth, I had thrush type symptoms a few days before I gave birth to my first. By the time I went to hospital I had no waters left but no awareness of losing them Confused

Also if you’ve got a UTI it can’t be left as can cause issues in pregnancy.

Don’t sit and worry, phone them.

I'm surprised they didn't check your urine when you went in? Anyway, don't be embarrassed, it's what they're there for, no need to worry needlessly x
