Is this normal at 20 weeks?

I'm 20+2 with my second baby. Over the past week or two I've started feeling small kicks and occasional rolling movements but they are very irregular and some days I don't feel anything.

Is this normal at this stage? I don't have an anterior placenta.

I'm on high alert about reduced movements but I don't think at this stage it's applicable to count kicks as there's no real pattern. Even so, I get very worried when I have a quiet day and just not sure what is normal at this stage. With my first pregnancy I'm pretty sure I didn't feel anything until way after my 20 week scan but I have read it's meant to be sooner in subsequent pregnancies. Are there any other people around the same stage here and if so what are you experiencing at the moment?

Yes, I am 20 weeks too. Some days I feel a lot, other days next to nothing. I think at this stage they are small enough that if they change position you can’t feel an awful lot. This is my third baby and I’m pretty sure it was the same with my other 2 at 20 weeks.

Hello, Congratulations!! I'm currently 23+5 days with my second. He's a nighttime baby 🙄 I don't feel much during the day at all but could be because I'm busy. As soon as I lie down at night I can feel him kicking along and rolling over, but some nights I only get flutters and my belly is quite soft, then other nights my stomach is rock hard and you can see him kicking. Must depend on how they are in your stomach

I didn’t feel any movements til 24 weeks with my second but it turned out the placenta was in such a position that it padded the baby well and sort of acted like a bit of a buffer for their movements. My community midwife was amazing and listened on the Doppler a few times reassurance even coming to my house once when I was in a bit of a state (three previous losses so was on high alert).

OP - I have read that movements aren’t reliable and so shouldn’t be counted necessarily before 24 weeks. Also they have a lot of space and so can easily move into an area where they can’t be felt as easily - that happened to my friend at 25ish weeks and she didn’t feel the baby move for 2 days.

Following this as I am 20+6 with my first baby and yet to feel anything that I can call a kick or definite movement. My 20 week scan on Tuesday was all good and baby was v active, but I just want to feel her move so that I know she’s okay. I have a high posterior placenta so that isn’t cushioning them.

I have fairly strong abdominal muscles, and belly fat but not a huge amount (size 12). Could this be stopping me from feeling movements?

I had a scan on Tuesday and I know that the private scan places won’t scan you within 2 weeks of a previous scan, but I think I’ll book one for as soon as I can.

Tx

With my son who's now four I didn't feel any movement untill 25 weeks. This one has been kicking from 19 weeks but I've heard
With your second you can feel it sooner

I started feeling kicking at 17 weeks (first pregnancy)

This is my second pregnancy, currently 22+4. I had been feeling some sporadic movement from 16 weeks with this pregnancy but it took until around 2 weeks ago for it to be a lot more consistent. I am scanned fortnightly and at the one for 20 weeks, the baby was moving a lot on the screen but I couldn't feel a thing which was reassuring for a short time!

I was told by multiple midwifes there's no normal until 25 weeks 😊
