"Clinically large" baby

Hi everyone.

Just a quickie. I've seen threads on here before about the uselessness of fundal height measurements but has anyone been told that their baby is clinically large? I'm measuring 40 weeks @ 37 weeks and they're sending me for a scan. Clinically large just sounds a bit scary to me...

5 had an enormo-sprog - he was 10lbs6 and he was born after 2 hours of active labour and 17 minutes of pushing. I don't think the size of the baby has anything at all to do with the difficulty or length of labour. They'll probably do a fasting blood test then make you eat dring lucozade then do anothe blood test just to rule out gestational diabetes (a cause of big babies) but apart from that, don't worry, you'll be fine. Just make sure you're got some 3-6 months clothes to dress him in. I hadn't and had to nip into Mothercare on the way home from hospital!

I did that, seeker - in Tesco's, baby in car with husband texting everyone. Infant child at the till said "when's it due"... I had to say "she was born yesterday".

2 hours active labour for me too. Have no idea how long I pushed.

I measured 3 weeks behind throughout my pregnancy but because at the 20 week scan, DD was thought to be big, I had lots of extra scans and got into a right old state about this huge baby, she was 8.3 in the end which although not small is not at all the huge baby predicted!

They thought ds would be huge they said they thought about 10.5 at full term, but he was 8.8 and was a week late!
(btw i had a very easy birth only in labour 4 hours so big isnt always bad)

I agree with the comment "I love a great big baby" ...
Mine were 10lbs and 10lbs 10oz respectively and they were big and chubby and bouncy from day one ... love it
I held a weeny 7lber the other day and she felt so fragile ... but she was v sweet of course.
at those with easy births with big babies - won't go into detail about mine

Ds was 'clinically small' at 37 weeks but was born, 2 days later, weighing 6lb 11 oz, which I know is on the smaller side but really isn't that small. I wouldn't worry toooo much about it- see what the scan says.

What I mean is that they said he was clinically small when actually he was quite average. Not sure if I am making any sense...
