Any good private scanning clinics in/around Berkshire or even London?

I guess Berkshire, Bucks/Surrey/ this sort of side of London or middle London if it's a good place. I have found one in Twyford so far but that's about it. Thanks

Do you want it for medical or vanity reason?

For medical reasons (i.e. dating scan, NT scan, growth scan etc), I thoroughly recommend the Fetal Medicine Centre (in Harley Street but it's a scan charity and training centre so you get top doctors / scanning facilities for very reasonable fees).

For vanity reasons (3D/4D scans), the natural birth company comes highly recommended.

Google them and their websites will come up.

LadyOfWassail · 17/12/2007 23:12

lol @ vanity - sorry, should have said it's definatly at least a dating scan and depending on the outcome of that the 12 week scan (I forgot what they do there) at the same time. According to dates I am 12 weeks next week so could have both, but could only be 6 also.

If it's for a dating scan, I would definitely recommend the Fetal Medicine Centre, it was a really nice experience. If you are not sure, just book in for the dating scan and I am sure they will make any further recommendations based on how big the baby is!

If you are doing the NT scan, the FMC does the blood test with it (apparently that gives the most accurate result) and they will ask you to go in earlier for the blood test so you will have the result by the time you go to the scan. Try and make the earliest appointment if possible as otherwise there is a lot of waiting around, you will get a picture of the baby as well as a full report. I am going there for a 32-week wellbeing scan as I have had a lot of issues this pregnancy and need the re-assurance! Good luck!

Hi firstly congrates Secondly there is a baby bond clinic in Ashford Middlesex just near heathtrow I had my Gender scan there and am having my 3d scan there on 2nd Feb! They are really friendly and not too expensive also no need to go into London which is a hassle at the best of times! here is a link to their website Baby Bond

I also highly recommend the Fetal Medicine Centre. Lovely place, marvellous staff, and the money is at least going to charity (the Fetal Medicine Foundation, which promotes research and training in fetal medicine) so you get a nice warm feeling.

Hi all

I am in a dreadful dilema which is stressing me out on a daily basis. I am 43 and 14 weeks pregnant with my first baby and had a Nuchal fold test which showed 1 in 52 chance of having a child with Downs Syndrome. My starting point based on my age was 1 in 34. The hospital ( Pembury) where I went did not look at the nasal bone or anything else just the bloods, skin thickness 2.8mm and my age.

I am now faced with the amnio decision but really do not want it done at all, it would be done at Pembury hospital in Kent.

I am now trying to get scanned to give me any other medical evidence this baby has Downs Syndrome other then my age. I know only I can make this decision but I cannot decide!

Help

Whoops should have started a new thread! Sorry

Louandben · 18/12/2007 12:22

Ditto re recommendation of Fetal Medicine Centre, fantastic place, esp if scan shows up any problems. The Prof (Nicolaides) that runs it devised the nuchal scan. They also do 3d/4d scans.

Louandben · 18/12/2007 12:28

Jules - why dont you go to the FMC and get a second opinion from their scan before doing anything else? They will look at everything in detail, including nasal bone etc and take into account the nuchal fold measurements and blood tests you have from your previous scan. They can also do the amnio if you then decide to go ahead and given the expertise there you probably minimise the odds of anything going wrong. I recently had CVS there after after a nuchal scan so I understand what you are going through. Good luck.x

organicbirthdaycake · 18/12/2007 13:12

Jules43, I'd suggest that you speak to someone at the Fetal Medicine Centre for further advice. I think that they'll only do a nuchal scan + bloods + examination for fetal nasal bone + of heart up until 13+6 but they may still be able to offer you some advice. You may decide to go up there for your amnio if their results are better than Pembury's in terms of miscarriage post-procedure. I don't know, but you may find that their rate is lower simply because they do so many of them.

FWIW, my local hospital is also Pembury and I'm going up to the FMC for a nuchal scan for these reasons.

angel1976 · 18/12/2007 14:05

FYI, FMC no longer does 3D/4D. They used to!

PortAndLemonaid · 18/12/2007 15:19

They don't do specific "3D scans" but the machine does 3D and they will flip it into 3D mode for a bit of the scan and give you a photo -- or at least they did for me a couple of months ago (and that was just a viability/dating scan, so I really hadn't been expexcting 3D).

Jules43 · 18/12/2007 15:40

Thanks all for advice

I have booked a scan for the 9th Jan with prof @ FMC, to check the nasal bone and heart before any invasive tests. I am going to give the NHS amnio a miss until after the scan. I know they can't say for definate but there may be some "soft markers" which up to now I don't have..

LadyOfWassail · 18/12/2007 22:07

Thanks for the replies - will ring both the Twyford and the FMC tomorrow to get booked in for a dating scan, thanks x

Fetal Medicine Centre is the best!

Jules - call ahead before you leave home cos you may have to wait a while cos Prof Nicolaides spends as much time as necessary with each patient. His staff do the scan and then he comes in the room and also does a scan. Very personable and kind andwell known - try Googling him.
(PS: He is also v good-looking. I'm pregnant and married but still human!

notmyrtle · 19/12/2007 13:37

FMC!

I'm not impressed with the Twyford place (& it's overpriced) - FMC is better. If you go on a Wednesday Prof Nicolaides will see you but be prepared for extremely long waits (not so bad on other days). I heard they were booked until January but they can usually squeeze you in if you really plead your case.

feedmenow · 19/12/2007 14:23

They have a private scan place at St Peters in Chertsey too, Ladyofwassail. I found them to be very nice.

angel1976 · 19/12/2007 16:45

Hi PortAndLemonAid,

Thanks for letting me know that. I have a wellbeing scan booked at FMC in early January. I was considering a 3D/4D scan at the Birth Company but given the problems we have had, I rather know the baby is okay than how it looks. It's good to know that FMC can switch to 3D mode though so maybe I can persuade them to do that for me quickly!

Ax
