looking for stories of nausea going away after birth/c-section - 35 weeks & struggling

I am really struggling with nausea again for past few weeks, now at 35 weeks, it feels constant & can't sit down/lie down/sleep/stand comfortably without nausea - much like the first trimester but with less retching etc

it's that low level nausea that makes you feel like it is normal/always there & will never go away - can't remember without it. struggling to see getting through to end & would love to hear if nausea went away after birth for people - i'm having ELCS at 39 weeks. before being pregnant had never heard of nausea in 3rd trimester so worried i will be abnormal one again whom it never disappears for!

Literally goes away as soon as the placenta is out Grin

I had morning sickness all through my pregnancy. .disappeared immediately after birth. .yours will too!

regularbutnamechangedd · 08/12/2021 13:27

Exactly what @CPDubs said. Like magic!

It is quite bizarre how it literally just vanishes straight after birth.

Emilytait · 08/12/2021 13:37

this is SO reassuring - anyone had this after c-section specifically?

Yes I did.

I haven't had it disappear right after birth but I had it go away after a few hours once, and then the day after with another. Was amazing.

I had HG throughout my full pregnancy, I was being sick multiple times a day, including the day I gave birth. I worried so much that it wouldn't go away after birth and was just doomed to feel that way forever but it was literally an instant thing after having the baby.

I'm pregnant with baby 2 now and struggling to remember that myself with the sickness right now😭

I joked to the anaesthetist during my c section that I could tell the placenta had been removed because I suddenly stopped feeling nauseous

She said no, it was probably the anti-sickness drugs in my IV. Then about 20 seconds later said 'oh, they have just taken the placenta out. Maybe it is that'

I swear I could literally feel normality returning like a wave

Emilytait · 08/12/2021 14:14

thanks so much for the stories!! what does the placenta have to do with nausea?

It's all about the complex hormonal soup that is pregnancy
HG and nausea isn't very well understood anyway, but the process of the placenta detaching is what sends the chemical signals to the brain that pregnancy has ended.

This in turn triggers off several other hormonal messages, such as to start producing milk, to produce lots of oxytocin (the 'happy hormone' for bonding) and to stop producing progesterone.

Whichever hormone or hormones that cause nausea during pregnancy are 'switched off' at this point, and you start feeling better

I had hyperemesis throughout pregnancy, only improving with medication from 11 weeks. The third trimester was awful as it came back severely. Alot of it was actually down to reflux which made me feel very sick. GP prescribed omeprazole which helped but didnt solve the issue.
I was induced due to preeclampsia and literally once she was born the nausea and sickness stopped immediately.
Ive had no meds since and feel normal again!
