Movements - when to call.

I am 32+2 today and baby has been perfect all the way through. Couple of episodes of what felt like reduced movement, so have been in twice already for this and both times baby absolutely fine - so not sure if it was just me being paranoid.

In the evening after work when I can sit still / lay down, there is lots of movement, same here and there throughout the night and some in the mornings too when I am in bed. However, when I am moving about a lot / distracted at work, I don't always notice them - only the odd shift or kick here and there throughout the whole day when I am sat still at my desk etc..

Is this normal? And could it be that I just don't notice them because I am distracted? If I lie down and relax, baby always gets moving. So I don't know if I am overreacting when I realise I don't feel her much in the day time during the weekdays. Or maybe that is just her pattern, it is so hard to tell.

I thankfully have had a smooth sailing pregnancy so far, and not scared or anxious for the birth or motherhood at all... but the movements are the only thing causing me anxiety, even though whenever I have been checked she has been absolutely fine.

Anyone else struggle with this?

Sounds completely normal to me!

Samanabanana · 07/12/2021 10:46

But you obviously must go and get checked if you feel something isn't right Flowers

I’d say that sounds good too and like you have a great idea of what’s normal for your baby.
If that normal pattern changes then, sure, seek advice.
I’m sure I read that baby tends to be lulled to sleep I’d walking about etc. and yeah you might be distracted and not notice so much at work.

Go in and get checked if it's worrying you. A midwife will never mind checking babies movement and may be able to give you some advice about recognising babies patterns of movement.

I went in 2/3 times with my 2nd DC and was never made to feel like a nuisance.

Any reduction or change in movements is worth checking out, every time. It sounds like she is moving a lot though when you rest. Can you keep a record of it? If you are concerned or feel something is not right then get it checked out and don’t wait. All the best.

Kind of sounds like my bub. He only really gets kicking it in lying down 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tina8800 · 07/12/2021 11:01

Exactly the same here! Im 35+3 weeks now and if Im on the go or sitting at my desk I cant feel the baby moving. As soon as I lay down, I can feel her and see my belly moving. I did struggle a lot with this at the beginning; made me very nervous if I couldnt feel the baby for an hour. Now I think its completely normal, if Im distracted, I just can`t feel the movements that often.
My baby also moves more at night, so maybe yours sleeps more during the daytime too?

As pp say, it's always worth getting checked if you have concerns.
Your pattern sounds very similar to mine (varies on weekends, I think because my pattern varies!), in that during the day at work even though I'm sat down I don't always notice the movements, when the baby first started moving I stopped every time I felt it but now I don't really register the movement if I'm busy with work, usually though if I think back over the day I feel quite confident that I've felt a few kicks here and there.
If I feel worried I lie down on the sofa as soon as I get home to see if she'll start moving & it's always reassured me. Ordinarily she's most active at night when I go to rest in bed in the evening etc and sometimes that feels to long to wait to check.
I think not moving when you are moving around is relatively normal as the motion rocks the baby to sleep. But again, it's all about the pattern of movement that is normal for you & if that changes you should get checked.

I worry about this also, when busy at work or out and about I don't really notice movement. In the mornings and evenings and nights he is very active. I'm 32 weeks also.

Midwife said that the movement in the day lulls them to sleep. Also she said make sure you're drinking enough water - apparently being mildly dehydrated can mean less movements - I def think I drink less when busy.

I'm a high risk pregnancy so have a fair few appointments. My midwife said if I haven't felt them for a while, to lay down on my side after drinking a big glass of cold water. Try to really focus undistracted and count movements. If I don't feel them moving over the next 15-30mins, I should call in immediately. It might be you've caught them in a sleep cycle, but triage will tell you what to do. Would def ask your midwife for advice if you're worried
