Whose had 3 sections and what was your third like ., any issues / major blood loss ?
I've had 2 EMC's after attempting vaginal and been strongly advised for elective next time which I'm gutted about as I hate the recovery but I won't ignore medical advice am also aware the more sections you have the risks go up

Bumping for you x

shas19 · 07/12/2021 19:45

I've had to emcs and going for a vbac in Jan. The risks are pretty similar 1 section my consultant has said, also having a supportive consultant/midwife is really important with vbacs. I'm also worried about blood loss and recovery especially with two kids at home. I lost quite abit with my first two. My consultant did say to me though, there is a slightly raised chance of bleeding more as it will take longer due to scar tissue but can be managed with iron supplements after of course🤢 you could try starting spatone sachets and lots of iron rich foods to help before your section.

shas19 · 07/12/2021 19:45

Two emcs*

rumblypumbly · 07/12/2021 19:48

Ive had 3. 1 emcs and 2 elective. No issues with scar/ tissue, minimal blood loss, up and about just as easy 3rd time as the first 2. Most recent was in May.

Definitely more risks but for me it was absolutely fine.

minniep · 07/12/2021 19:53

I've had 3 with no issues. I had my tubes tied on my third so I definitely won't be having a fourth 😀😀.

weebarra · 07/12/2021 19:56

I've had three EMCS. The last was quite tough to recover from because of adhesions.

Littlebelina · 07/12/2021 19:59

Had 3 sections (one emergency, 2 elective, the 2 elective 18 months apart). Slower recovery with 3rd (got minor infection, possibly because I didn't rest enough) but still not too bad. No major blood loss or scarring. Not planning on anymore tgough

Wildlynx · 07/12/2021 20:00

2 emcs, 3rd scheduled cs here. No problems medically and made planning for other kids a lot easier. Recovery easier too as you're body isn't stressed/tired before op. Not what I wanted for any of the births but once you get your head round it try to look at the positives as there are lots. Yes, potentially more risk for scar adhesion etc. but my consultants didn't seem concerned in my case. Best of luck.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 07/12/2021 20:05

Ive had 3, first was an emergency and an easy recovery, 2nd was planned and a horrific recovery, 3rd was planned and the recovery was fine not as easy as the first but nowhere near as bad as the 2nd.

furbabymama87 · 07/12/2021 20:08

I've had 4. My third has a few complications to do with bladder damage, my fourth was actually my most straight forward but took longer as I got sterilised at the same time.

dandydear · 07/12/2021 20:10

I've had three in just over four years). First two were EMCS, strong advice to elective on last (which after research I agreed).

Elective was lovely, I had a good nights sleep before, nice meal, everything was very ordered. Recovery was same as others.

Things that helped me:

  1. Keeping the wound covered - I have a bit of a mum tum so no rubbing.
  1. Stayed in hospital two nights for 2 and 3, this made a material difference, though I know it's not the same with covid restrictions.
  1. Had someone at home with me for no 3 for 6 weeks (DH happened to be on garden leave).

@Daisysandviolets thank you

@shas19 good luck for your vbac I just attempted one got to 10cm and pushed for 90 mins but it wasn't meant to be I was gutted and still coming yo terms with it. My surgeon strongly
Advised an elective next so as much as I know it's my choice I won't go against medical advice for me x

@rumblypumbly @minniep good to know thanks I have considered sterilisation at a third but we both talk a lot about 4 being the magic number for us if we are lucky enough

@weebarra thanks, is that becayse you were labouring ?

@Littlebelina it's almost impossible to rest like they say you should especially with other children isn't it ?!
Did they advise you of how long to leave gap before getting pregnant again after your second ? I've been told no sooner than 12 months ideally
I've just had a 16 month gap.

@Wildlynx you're right , I will focus on the positives as there are a few but like you I defo didn't want any caesareans but it wasn't to be!

@smilingthroughgrittedteeth do you know why second was so bad especially being an elective?
@furbabymama87 interested to know more about bladder damage if you don't mind ? Did they know straight away they had done something ? I started with a uti 11 days PP just finished 2nd course of antibiotics and it's not shifting the pain is getting worse I had issues with bladder in labour needed an in and out catheter twice was drinking jug after jug of water but no urge for wee

@dandydear thanks sounds similar to me I have been strongly advised for elective I would love to give vbac another go as think I would labour very fast this time and both issues from last 2 emc aren't something that would necessarily happen again first B2B failure to progress and 2nd cord round neck twice although my scar was pulsing I could feel it even with a spinal so I know not to push it and will have an elective I bloody hate the recovery though. The best pro I think will be knowing I won't go overdue again!

They slightly nicked my bladder while they were operating. They made me keep a catheter in for a couple of days instead of just a few hours to give bladder a rest, then they thought I might struggle to wee afterwards and were making me measure my wee, but as soon as it was out I was able to wee normally. I just drank loads of water. They actually advised me not to have any more kids after that or to wait a few years until my next section as I had a lot of scar tissue on the inside and they said I could end up with bowel and bladder problems, but I fell pregnant 10 months later and that section was very straightforward, no problems.

TinyRebel · 08/12/2021 14:40

1 emcs then 2 electives. 5.5 years between 1 and 2 then 27 months between 2 and 3. I won't lie, ended up in high dependency afterwards as lost an awful lot of blood - it was only about a year later that DH admitted that he actually thought I might die. Shock.
Had quite a lot of adhesions and was in theatre for a few hours.
However definitely safer than an attempt at VBA2C and they managed to tidy up the scar tissue and tie my tubes so that my knackered uterus never has to go through it again!
I think part of the problem was that I really overdid it after CS2, which led to a lot of scarring. Recovery was a lot easier the third time round, although breastfeeding harder to establish- possibly because of the blood loss.
The registrar, who was initially rather snotty about sterilisation having been agreed with the consultant beforehand, actually admitted (after having had to page said consultant in to unpick my bladder) that I did the right thing and definitely shouldn't be having any more.

mrssunshinexxx · 09/12/2021 16:48

I'm glad the third was straight forward @furbabymama87
Oh gosh @TinyRebel that sounds really scary I think people often forget how horrible it is for our husbands looking on and helpless. I'm really torn I did ask on discharge of my second if I would have to argue to be sterilised after a third and was told no but we really go back and forth re having 3 or 4 and obviously I wouldn't know what having 3 is like or if I felt 'done' on the day of a third caesarean

Littlebelina · 09/12/2021 19:36

@mrssunshinexxx sorry, slow reply. I asked my doctor and she didn't really know! She thought 6 month between pregnancies which we did get (but not internationally as were trying earlier)

mrssunshinexxx · 10/12/2021 01:18

Thank you @Littlebelina I think I might get second opinion especially as I know I would have an elective this time so risk of rupture during vbac gone and higher risk of uterine rupture as wouldn't go overdue x
